I’ve finally reached the end of the Dark series in Netflix. It’s so wild how the show was able to connect everything so seamlessly through the 3 Seasons.

Marburg murder remains unsolved after 33 years

Police continues search for two fugitive offenders.

Marburg – many inhabitants of the South Quarter recall the occurences of autumn 1986, when a heist targeting the welder’s workshop in Haspel Str. in the vicinity of the old Hunter’s Barracks escalated to a deadly shootout, with horror.

Two masked men had attempted to empty the welder’s safe after the business closed for the evening. A significant cash payment had been made by a customer on the same day. The masked criminals entered through one of the open windows on the roof level of the workshop, but were observed by an inhabitant of Liebig Str. who immediately alerted the owner of the workshop via telephone. The owner, however, lived only a few houses from the workshop and did not want to wait for the police to arrive, deciding instead to confront the burglars himself. As a result, shots were exchanged and the welder was lethally inured as a result. He died on the same night at Lahnberge Hospital. The search for the suspected perpetrators was without success.

my translation of the news article seen in S3E6 when Aleksander discloses his past to Bartosz. Note that this is from Eva’s World and therefore may have played out differently in Adam’s World although I am inclined to think it went down the same way.

meta/headcanon time!

We know that Aleksander/Boris (imma refer to him as Boris from here on) is a qualified welder. It is likely that the workshop was his place of employment - hence he knew about the large amount of cash on the premises as well as the open window. Somehow he shared this information with Aleksander (Clausen’s brother, the real Aleksander) and they decided to break in and take the money, making them accomplices. It is likely that they planned to leave the country with the money from the heist given that they had their passports on them at the time - this is stuff that we can be pretty certain about given the information provided.

now it gets hc’ish but it makes sense so i’m running with it:

they were interrupted BEFORE they could get the money from the safe, and both Boris and Aleksander were injured during the shootout.  Aleksander ended up dying from his injuries while they were on the run, Boris hid his body (which was never found) and took his passport, continued on alone and ended up in Winden (where he meets Regina) - explains how Boris ended up with the passport and also why Aleksander remains missing (Boris must have stashed that body REALLY well tbh).

Ok, but Dark played one of Hozier's most obscure songs in what probably is their most violent and crude episode ever. And it was mesmerizing.
