Guadalupe Ghost Town, Sandoval County, NM. Located in the Rio Puerco Valley, Guadalupe Ghost Town is slowly disintegrating as the desert wears away at the remaining structures. Originally called La Posta and Ojo del Padre, Guadalupe was along a popular stagecoach route to larger towns. Eventually the town succumbed to the usual fate of isolated old west towns as the water table lowered and more convenient routes led to its abandonment. The largest structure still standing (Slide 1 is inside, Slide 2 shows the structure in the background) is often referred to as an old brothel, but research shows that it was actually a store and dance hall belonging to one Juan Cordova, who lived upstairs with his family. Word is people would come from all around the area to attend the all-night dances held there.
