I remember first seeing these when I had The Art of Star Trek when I was a teenager. Ralph McQuarrie’s (of Star Wars Fame) designs for the Enterprise really were something. They were designed for an Star Trek movie that never came to be in 1976 (before they tried to Star Trek Phase II which was also abandoned). The study model below was later seen in the ship graveyard either in The Best of Both Worlds Pt 2 or Unification Pt. 1 (or both).
