@witcheryen said: in some of the books (I’m thinking The Lost Years??) pointy sideburns are indeed starfleet regulation

this gives me so much joy. oh my god. just imagine riker being a dick to some ensign on the enterprise d about how his sideburns aren’t pointy enough to be on the bridge. can somebody with twitter please @ mike macmahon and request that in season two of lower decks, boimler be seen using a protractor when he shaves to be sure the angle is right because it’s STARFLEET REGULATION OK SOMEONE MIGHT CHECK

Every male Starfleet officer is supposed to have pointy sideburns.

In the last episode I listened to of Garrett Wang’s and Robbie McNeill’s podcast, Robbie says he could never grow them. So when he has the sideburns later in the series, they are fake. I know I’ve read that the actors that had to do this complained because takes could be ruined by these fake sideburns that wouldn’t always stay on, particularly if you were sweaty.

As I’ve mentioned before, in the Ferengi episode of Voyager Tom and Chakotay go undercover and suddenly they don’t have the sideburns. But when they return to the ship they do.

I guess someone decided the pointy sideburns were too obviously Starfleet but then they went straight to Sickbay to have the Doc help them speed grow them again. You have to have priorities!

1. Paris just got out of the Future Penal Colony of New Zealand. He didn’t have time to grow them back. he’s got two weeks or else.

2. @mylittleredgirl was it also The Ashes of Eden (Graphic) Novel?
