Destroyed Catholic temples of Colombia

1. Monumento Nacional Templo Histórico: A national monument where the act that formed Gran Colombia, the predecessor of the modern-day country, was signed in 1821. Destroyed in an earthquake in 1879, it was partially rebuilt in the early 1900 and now kept as part of a national historic complex close to the city of Cucuta.

2. San Lorenzo church: Built in 1951 in the town of Armero, destroyed in the volcanic eruption that completely buried the town and killed over 20.000 of its 25.000 inhabitants. The cupola was discovered and subsequently unearthed in 2010.

3. San Rafael church: It began construction in 1889 but was officially finished in 1957 in the town of Gramalote, destroyed alongside the town in 2010 after the mountain where the town was located in completely collapsed due to a combination of an unstable fault line and intense rainstorms that affected the whole country.
