NX-01 in “Borderland”
#STAR TREK
Star Trek: Starship Creator
- Original Release: 1998
- Developer: Imergy
- Publisher: Simon & Schuster
- Platform: PC
This game lets you create your own starships. You start off with a popular starship class, such as Constitution, Galaxy, Intrepid or Defiant and then modify it in phases. The first phase is appearance, letting you toggle between different nacelles, hulls and saucers. Next up is the name, followed by internal systems that affect the stats.
One you’ve built a ship, you can send it on missions. The missions are fully automatic, so you just sit back and watch your creation at work (or put it in “stealth” mode and do something else).
While quite limited, it’s nice to see your creations flying around. I focused on three ships: the first was a Constitution class USS USS Columbia (I didn’t realise it automatically added the USS part), designed to look like a Constitution mixed with the NX class. Then a really silly looking Defiant, the Potato class USS Spud. Finally, a really cool looking Intrepid I called the USS Pathfinder.
I can't claim to understand all the business of it but... Paramount sinking would certainly explain a lot of things we've been seeing from them the last few years.
Merchandise for trek is at a minimum of late, and the new shows have especially been ignored. Oh you can find generic stuff on their website, and there are still some places licensing; but almost everything done these days that isn't stuff you could make yourself in a cafe press shop in 2006 is chasing the older trek.
Tie in novels are also all but dead. Paramount used to do 24 of them a year. Then that slashed to 12 a decade ago. Now? Maybe 3 a year at current pace. It's become a shock when a new one is announced. They've been trying to unload their publishing business in whole.
So what's this mean for Trek? No idea. If Paramount goes belly up and sells it's assets, it'll likely mirror how MGM was bought by Amazon. Star Trek would end up with a whole new corporate overlord. Apple? Amazon? Netflix?
At which point we're likely to see everything current get axed, and a few years hiatus as they "retool" and find a new visionary head to relaunch again. Which of course has happened before. Harve Bennet. Rick Berman. Alex Kurtzman. Whose next?
Stop bringing Spock back in new trek. We don't need him anymore. We need Brunt
Brunt needs to appear in new trek and immediately try to sue the federation for unlawful interference in ferengi affairs. then tell someone that his pronouns are he/they
You know, I bet the Ferengi have someone like Ea-Nasir and he's like. a saint or something
All Star Trek fans need to get angry over what’s happening to Prodigy.
Canceling it is whatever. That happens. But if they’re willing to remove Prodigy they can pull any other Trek show.
Edit: Prodigy doesn’t have a large online presence but by Paramount+‘s own metrics it’s one of their most watched shows and is incredibly popular with kids. It’s also been critically well-received and scored an Emmy nomination for best animated series. This isn’t a case of streaming service clearing out an under performing show.
It’s coming off Paramount+ reportedly ‘in a matter of days’ and they’re looking for a new home for it but currently only the first 10 episodes of season 1 are available to buy on either physical media or digital storefronts like Amazon and iTunes.
Don’t get comfortable just because Lower Decks and Strange New Worlds have a visible online presence; this is bad for all of us
This is a bad list with bad opinions.
First off, this is Dax and Star Trek VI erasure. And also Enterprise’s Judgment, tho the similar setting of Trek VI makes it a bit redundant it should still be in here. I could hear arguments for Enterprise’s The Council tho.
Two, Chain of Command Pt 2??!??!?!! That is not courtroom trek. It’s a superb ep but doesn’t fall in there. I would also say that Encounter at Farpoint doesn’t belong here(and if you did that why not have All Good Things…).
Also, sorry SNWers but Ad Astra was not…good. bottom of the list.
I think Judgment, Rules of Engagement, Dax all need to be towards the bottom of the list. Death Wish maybe above those. The TOS eps around the middle, with The Measure of a Man, the Drumhead and Trek VI in the top slots.
