On May 12, 2002 the roof of the MIK 112 at Baikonur Cosmodrome collapsed because of a structural failure due to poor maintenance and heavy rains, killing 8 workers and destroying the only flown model of Soviet Buran spacecraft, Buran 1.01, and the mock-up of Energia rocket.

Soviet Russia had an anti-handshake campaign in the 1920s to fight infectious diseases. “Down with handshakes!” antique pins released by a Russian anti-handshake society can still be found.
