I just tried out an alternate start mod for Fallout 4 called “Another Life”. Basically skips the intro and you get to choose where in the world you spawn, your weapons and equipment etc. There’s an option to randomize the options, which I did. Upon coming out of the teleporter I found myself in the Crater of Atom (slap bang in the middle of one of the most dangerous and inhospitable places in the game) with nothing but a postman’s uniform and a boxing glove. 

It went about as well as expected
