“I’m strong. You know that. And I can cope with the truth. I just demand to know the truth. It’s when people don’t tell me the truth that I can’t bear it.”
(The Crown, 2017)
#The Crown
It doesn’t feel right, as Head of State, to do nothing. It is exactly right. Is it? But surely doing nothing is no job at all? To do nothing is the hardest job of all. And it will take every ounce of energy that you have. To be impartial is not natural, not human. People will always want you to smile or agree or frown. And the minute you do, you will have declared a position. A point of view. And that is the one thing as sovereign that you are not entitled to do. The less you do, the less you say or agree or smile… Or think? Or feel? Or breathe? Or exist? The better. Well, that’s fine for the sovereign. But where does that leave me?

This scene is sort of a metaphor for them; in the first shots we see everyone in absolute chaos deciding where to sit, talking to each other and, in the middle of it all we find Elizabeth who remains unwavering ( like she is meant to do as Queen ), completely unbothered by the mess that is happening around her.
I know exactly what my job is. Your father made it perfectly clear.
What was your favorite line of
dialogue from the second season?
Suzanne Mackie (Producer): “I’ve been queen barely 10 years, and in that time I’ve had three prime ministers, all of them ambitious men, clever men, brilliant men. Not one has lasted the course. They’ve either been too old, too ill or too weak. A confederacy of elected quitters.” Peter Morgan wrote that the day of the Brexit result. It chimes. (x)
