#The Frighteners

One of my favorite seasonal offerings has been Peter Jackson’s underrated 1996 horror comedy The Frighteners, ever since it was released on DVD. I loved that movie in the theaters and still can’t get enough of it. Michael J. Fox is at his most charming, Jeffrey Combs and Jake Busey are at their most creepy, ET’s Dee Wallace chews scenery like a pro, the ghosts are beautifully rendered, especially the late John Astin as the Judge, and the story is non-stop madness. Oh, and let’s not forget the fantastic score by Danny Elfman. This movie is pure entertainment from beginning to end. As the Judge says, “Death ain’t no way to make a living,” but it sure as hell is a lot of fun to watch!
