I liked all of the Myriad Universe stories published but “The Chimes at Midnight” does stand out, as it follows the timeline showed in TAS’ “Yesteryear” episode but in the era of The Wrath of Khan thru The Voyage Home. It posits that Kirk and the Enterprise’s impact has remained similar until that point. The novella opens up as Khan has activated the Genesis Device and Thelin comes with a different solutions. Events become out of synch with our own and produce an interestingly new universe, ultimately with Thelin becoming a Martyr figure and a protege/successor in a way to Kirk. I’m purposefully vague because you should read it (actually you should read all 3 Myriad Universe Omnibuses)
