#True Detective
I think human consciousness is a tragic misstep in evolution. We became too self-aware, creatures that should not exist by natural law. We are things that labor under the illusion of having a self; an accretion of sensory, experience and feeling, programmed with total assurance that we are each somebody, when in fact everybody is nobody.

Endless Ships - Rust Cohle/Marty Hart
“Are we gettin’ engaged?”
A few years ago I had a dream that was some kind of True Detective/Interstellar crossover. Rust Cohle and Marty Hart lived on this interstellar worldship in a large mansion. One day Marty found two large human poops under a dining table and became apocalyptically enraged about it—he was ready to track down and kill whoever was responsible.
Rust Cohle caught him by the arms and tried to reason calmly with him. “It’s just a dookie, Marty. It’s not worth killing a man over,” he said.
Marty was not consoled, and continued fo shout and try to break free. “Two dookies, Rust! Two dookies!”
I woke myself up from laughing and think about this dream periodically. Never before had I ever used the word ‘dookie’.
To realize that all your life—you know, all your love, all your hate, all your memories, all your pain—it was all the same thing. It was all the same dream, a dream that you had inside a locked room, a dream about being a person.
