Yeah, this season is a stinker compared to last, but you can’t tell me it isn’t fun. Vaughn’s wildly inconsistent acting, Farrell’s obscene caricature of a cop, the circa-1985 material Kitsch is working with a la the old hat/out of date self hatred.

But wait, there’s more. The ridiculous shootout. Farrell’s cringe-worthy word choice around minors. Even more awful Vince Vaughn.

This season has been so entertaining if you stop caring entirely about high quality television and simply watch it for the semi-occasionally awful writing and Vaughn’s in-and-out performances that make it seem like half of the time he comes to set immediately after his dog just died and the other half he’s amped up like he just watched the closing scene of Whiplash.

Oh yeah, and how it all is totally one massive shitty ripoff of Inherent Vice… Just so much worse

I feel like I stepped into watching an episode of Strike Back but on American soil

Cary Fukunaga: There wasn’t a lot of humor in the script originally, and that was actually my first note and Woody Harrelson’s first note. Woody was like, “Yeah, it’s really interesting, it’s really dark — but it needs some light in it.” I was like, “I 100 percent agree.” Woody was really responsible for pushing and looking at scenes together to try to find the natural humor in them those pregnant pauses and stuff — and so was Matthew. Matthew’s a funny guy to really bring out that side of it — which I think was really important — because it wasn’t necessarily the writing. I think we achieved it at times, and then stuff we thought would be funnier didn’t really carry over. It’s a tricky balance to keep up with the tone of what we’re doing and to allow for some levity and humor. (x)

aka one of the many reasons why Season 2 sucks without this team
