ive been thinking a lot about twin peaks: the return and the absurdity of checking the watch on ones wrist in a world where time is so decidedly liquidy and its a recurring question whether it's the past or the future. for me, these moments always read as the characters attempting to ground themselves in the face of the surreal, dreamy, ethereal circumstances confronting them. a way of tracking one's progress whilst traversing through the dream, it's a movement that lynch and frost repeat several times throughout the season and ive always been really into it as a motif.
When this kind of fire starts, it is very hard to put out. The tender boughs of innocence burn first, and the wind rises, and then all goodness is in jeopardy.
