“Justice Ann Marie McDonald ruled that Canada’s practice of turning back third-country refugees who try to cross at official points of entry along the U.S.-Canada frontier — on the theory that they have already reached a safe harbor in the United States — no longer makes sense given the atrocious treatment to which they are subjected south of the border. Canada, she wrote, can no longer turn a blind eye to the reality that the United States denies decent and dignified treatment to asylum seekers.”

Congratulations, America.

  • Americans owe a cumulative $131 billion in unpaid taxes, enough to completely fund the Department of Ed. for 2 years...
  • Most of this unpaid tax money is owed by millionaires...
  • Millionaires were 80% less likely to be audited in 2018 than in 2011...
  • You are more likely to get audited if you make $20,000/yr than if you make $400,000/yr

just to chime in, saying that it’s “too much work” frames the IRS as lazy and not willing to work hard. The IRS can’t audit rich people because they don’t have enough money to pay for sufficient personnel to audit everyone who isn’t on anti-poverty programs.

This is directly because of conservatives.

crybabyhellbutch

Moreover, the rich pay lawers and accounting teams to ACTIVELY MAKE IT DIFFICULT TO AUDIT THEM. The IRS actually put together task force to finally go after billionaire tax fraud and they were immediately swamped in more red tape and civil court trouble than they could handle.

The government can't tax rich people because the rich are, in fact, so rich that they can leverage more power than the government.

That’s revolting. <__>

“In 1966, Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California on a promise to “clean up the mess at Berkeley,” which he described as “a haven for communist sympathizers, protesters, and sex deviants.” Reagan got the school’s president fired, attempted to cut the educational budget, and, in 1969, ordered an armed confrontation with student demonstrators who were protesting the war. Officers opened fire with shotguns and tear gas. One student, a bystander, was killed. Another was permanently blinded, and 32 were hospitalized with severe injuries. On May 1, 1970, President Richard Nixon told an audience at the Pentagon: “You see these bums, you know, blowing up the campuses. Listen, the boys that are on the college campuses today are the luckiest people in the world, going to the greatest universities, and here they are burning up the books, storming around about [the Vietnam War].” Three days later, the Ohio National Guard opened fire on student protesters at Kent State University, leaving four students dead and nine wounded. On May 15, local police killed two black students and left twelve more wounded during a demonstration at Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. Somehow, despite decades’ worth of counterexamples, the American mainstream remains convinced that campus activists represent a unique threat to public safety and civil discourse.”

HE. IS. A MONSTER

weavemama

1.3 million people in Puerto Rico are living off food stamps. 40% of people in Puerto Rico won’t be able to properly afford food in a humanitarian crisis. Let me repeat that for the people who are against financial help, 40% of people in Puerto Rico won’t be able to properly afford food in a humanitarian crisis.

meirveilles

he’s denying people supplies necessary for their survival. you can’t tell me this man isn’t a monster.

weavemama

He also told them what they’re going through isn’t as bad because it’s not a “real catostrophe like Katrina”. I really hope folks don’t forget about this horrific crisis response in 2020 and even in 2018 when it comes to the midterm elections. We can’t let this type of selfish government be in charge anymore.

daughterofdustandashes

He was also “throwing” the supplies at people

and there are quotations because the demon doesnt know how to throw

weavemama

Yep you’re 100% right. You can see in this video he was throwing paper towels at people like he was a damn t-shirt cannon at a basketball game…… rather than being more genuine and handing them out. You can tell he sees these crisis victims as inferior.

weavemama

UPDATE: the trump administration JUST NOW approved a waiver to use food stamps for hot meals, but before they denied it for 2 whole weeks. Progress is progress but this response is still a shit show and he insulted the people of Puerto Rico. This should have been approved as soon as the crisis started

The final bill text has not yet been released to the public, and there has been no independent analysis of the cost of the bill or its impact on health coverage. Yet the House plans to forge ahead with a markup in the Rules Committee late Wednesday night and a floor vote on Thursday.

House GOP Pulls The Trigger On Thursday Vote To Repeal Obamacare

The GOP wants to take healthcare away from at least 24 million Americans, remove protections against people who have pre-existing conditions (through no fault of their own), and guarantee that people go broke simply because they got sick.

And the GOP is doing this because the GOP cares more about giving tax cuts to people who are already so wealthy, they literally can’t spend all their money.

And the GOP is doing all of this without allowing the public – who will be affected by this, unlike the millionaires in congress who have been exempted from the most harmful provisions of this bill – to see what the bill actually says.

If the GOP believes so strongly that this is in the best interests of their constituents, why are they keeping the details hidden? Why are they attempting to force through a vote before the CBO can score it?

Because they know that this is going to hurt people who voted for them (let’s not pretend they give a flying fuck about the people who didn’t vote for them).

I am so angry right now. I am sick to my stomach.

The possibility of collusion between Trump’s allies and Russian intelligence is much more serious than Watergate. It is a constitutional crisis. It represents a violation of our republic’s most sacred trust.

The worst part about our lackluster collective response to Russia’s interference is that it represents exactly what the Russians were hoping to produce: apathy. Their goal, in addition to installing a president sympathetic to their views, was to undermine Americans’ belief in our democracy. For Americans to think that none of this really matters, that it’s all a game. That’s how they truly erode U.S. moral authority and strength over the long term. It’s what they have sought to do to European adversaries for many years, and now they have brought this seed of destruction here.

We all have a role to play in stopping it. Each of us should be judged by how we respond at this moment when the most fundamental precept of our democracy has been violated.

The Clinton campaign warned you about Russia. But nobody listened to us.
