Photography and classical painting can meet and overlap with great success, as proven by the latest series produced by photographer Sacha Goldberger. His wonderfully baroque and lush paintings, inspired by the Flemish masters of classical painting (Rembrandt in particular) were complicated to produce, yet the results yielded are spectacular to say the least. On Flemish paintings, Goldberger says “I like the light and the way the characters pose and look at you.” The series was completed with the aid of an entire team of costume, make-up and hair professionals, as well as friends and live animals for models. “I wanted my girlfriend to pose with the Marabou Stork. Unfortunately, it escaped and flew all over the studio. It felt like we were in Jurassic Park.”
