Nothing I knew about Van Helsing from pop culture gave me the slightest indication he was a career academic, this changes my conception of the man considerably
two bites marks, no reflection, hold on, hold on, I’m getting something, uh an idea is forming
In an interview for the documentary Hammer: The Studio That Dripped Blood, Cushing revealed how his portrayal of Van Helsing came about: “In the book by Bram Stoker, he’s described as a very old, little, withered man who speaks almost double-Dutch. And this was going back nearly twenty years when I was younger and prettier. When I was offered the part, I said ‘Well, I think we’d better play it as myself’ and they agreed to that.”

Because I have far too many ideas about how obviously Guillermo is part of the same expanded Van Helsing family from the Hammer Dracula films, I present the following.
My favorite thing about the original Dracula novel is that in it Van Helsing isn’t some kind of vampire hunter, he’s just a regular ass doctor. Like he originally shows up to treat a disease, and it just so happens that killing vampires is a hobby of his.
