Hey remember when Bernie Sanders said women fantasize about rape?

Hey remember when Hillary Clinton defended a rapist?

Hey.

What’s that “rape culture” you guys said you were against?

muchtoocynical

for anyone who sees this, some clarification

sanders’ quote is from a satirical 1972 essay he wrote that examined sexual dynamics between men and women, and he used such extreme language (he also said men prefer tied up women) to help more clearly draw contrasts between male and female sexuality

and “defended” here means “was legally obliged to defend her client in a court of law because that’s her duty as a public defender” even though she did request to be taken off that case in particular way back in 1975

although I know a fair portion of tumblr has already written off Hillary due to, y'know, doing her job and it’s only a matter of time before sanders’ essay gets passed around and taken out of context too

regardless I’d bet that sanders and Clinton have much more pro-women voting stances than literally any of the 18 republican candidates (trump and Carson notwithstanding) despite these out-of-context instances that occurred 40 years ago

airyairyquitecontrary

I am sure they have both said and done shitty things.  They are a) humans and b) politicians.  I am also sure they each have some stances, current stances, that I would really object to - e.g. I understand Mr Sanders is opposed to gun control laws, a stance which I consider wildly irresponsible and immoral.

What you need to do when you are choosing who to vote for is to weigh up as much information as you can find about them and decide whether the good and the acceptable outweighs the shady and the shitty.  You are not going to find a candidate who is upright and admirable in all ways, especially if they have been involved in politics for many years.  Taking the current president as an example, I like Mr Obama very much in many ways, but I really hate his drones policy.

Please, PLEASE don’t take the defects of the candidates on offer as a reason NOT TO VOTE.  That is what the Republicans WANT.  Do not give Republicans what they want.  They don’t care about you and they won’t look after you or your family or your friends unless you are just like them.

Neither Mr Sanders nor Mrs Clinton is an ideal candidate but either of them would be vastly preferable to any of the heartless jackasses seeking the Republican nomination.  In practical terms, that’s the choice you’re making - not a choice between Sanders/Clinton and a better Democratic or independent candidate, but a choice between Sanders/Clinton and whoever the Republicans run with.

The only way to effect lasting political change in a country like the USA is to learn about the parties and their candidates, register to vote and use the hell out of that vote in elections from local to national.  If you can’t find the best candidate, choose the least bad candidate and let them know how you want them to improve.  Some of it still won’t work but with any luck, you can get some good things out of the situation.

Thus Began the Rein of the Millennials

theliberaltony

2015 is the first year that the Millennial generation makes up more of the voting age population than any other generation.

That is why the older generation is trying to suppress your vote. They know that you can change the world they destroyed.

The first step we should take is getting Bernie Sanders elected President of the United States. We should show the world that we refuse to stand aside while an older and smaller generation insists on the destruction of our Democracy.

This is just the beginning, This is the first year we have as the largest voting generation in US History.

Let’s make the most of it.

Don’t forget to register as a democrat and vote in the primaries!

zeshuetoral

Please vote in the primaries, it’s arguably more important than the general election will be this time around!

official-arnie-nutts

Young people you are our nation’s hope, get out and vote in the primaries, electing Bernie Sanders would be your first step in undoing the damage that has been done to our nation.  This is your country, your world, take it back from those of my generation and the one before which have brought it to this horrific point.  You are the world’s hope, use your power, claim your place as leaders, visionaries, and reformers. You can save the world!

klavierr

fucking FINALLY there’s a post that actually talks about the primaries, less than half of the people I see lobbying for Sanders even know to mention primaries because no millennials ever go vote in them. It’s time to change that. Primaries are usually clustered around march/april 2016 unless you’re in New Hampshire, Dunno when it is then.  But anyway, yeah, important

not voting isn’t refusing to play the game. You’re in this country, you’re subject to the game whether you like it or not. The only way not to play is to leave, and the vast majority of us don’t have that option.

Not voting is playing the game but saying ‘pass’ every time your turn comes up and then wondering why you lost.

ohvelveteena

Making young people not vote is actually a tactic used in politics to keep the satus quo. The young vote is always the one for change, so dissuading them from voting at all is actually a political tactic used by the people in charge to keep themselves there.

Voting is rebellion.
