[ID: Screenshots of three tweets by Nathan Yaffe, @AtNathanYaffe on twitter

They read as follows:

“For people who feel unsafe about voting in person but now fear the USPS will be unable to deliver a “mail-in” ballot in a timely fashion.

There is a way around it:

1. Request a mail-in ballot.

2. Do not mail it.

3. Google your supervisor of elections to see where you can drop off your mail-in ballot. Its usually NOT THE POLLING PLACE. All states allow this!

Here is what you're accomplishing by doing this:

1. Your ballot gets in on time no matter what happens to the USPS.

2. You don't have to worry about standing in long lines and risking infection. You're just stopping by to drop it off.”

end ID]

i’m certain that i’m not the only one who’s made a post about this information, but i wanted to share this anyways, for anyone who doesn’t know this!

ALSO— double check that you’re registered to vote!!!!!

nekohooch

IMPORTANT!!

This is not true for all states. In the state of Tennessee your ballot -must- be mailed to be counted. I was hoping to drop it off but looked up the rules just to make sure and sure enough:

"What is the deadline to return my ballot so it can be counted?

You must mail your ballot in time for your county election commission to receive it no later than the close of polls on Election Day.

Can I hand deliver my ballot to the election office?

No. You must return your ballot by mail (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.)."

This could be true for your state as well. PLEASE look up your states Absentee Voting options, some states have made it easier bc of COVID but there are some that haven’t. I don’t want people to be disappointed if their vote doesn’t count because their state had ridiculous rules.

So I told one of my managers yesterday that I would be needing time of work this Tuesday to go and vote because I didn’t realize I was scheduled for a long shift and won’t be off before the polls close.

She then proceeds to ask me why I couldn’t early vote.

I tell her that I guess I could have but I didn’t and the option was now closed and my next and last chance is Tuesday.

Cue her giving me a hard time for not early voting.

I politely tell her that I didn’t so I’ll be requiring time off on Tuesday.

Her response?

“I mean we’ll try to get you out.”

Umm no.

I say - “Legally the law requires that you allow me time off work to go vote.”

Her response?

“Yes, I mean legally it does.”

Yes bitch, legally! As in the law! As in it is my right!

So whatever, I leave her office with a bad taste in my mouth and run into a coworker (who’s worked there as long as I’ve been alive), and I tell her about what happened.

She goes OFF, tells me I better make sure they let me go vote Tuesday and that if they try to fight me on it to tell them to look in their files for the law that she printed off for them years ago stating my right to do so.

So she leaves and I feel a bit better but just for shits and giggles I decide to look up the law for Tennessee voting rights (I knew it was a law that they have to let you off but I didn’t know the exact parameters.)

You know what Tennessee law says?

Up to three hours PAID time to go vote, (and my dumb ass was planning on clocking out.)

You best believe that if someone tries to argue with me Tuesday I’ll be slapping down a copy of that law and my ACLU membership card, I’m pretty sure they don’t want to be hearing from those lawyers.

If anyone else needs information about voting rights in their state:

And just an FYI: most states require you to let your employer know that you’ll be taking time off to vote the day before you plan on doing it

If you’re a UK blog who relentlessly reminded people vote in the US election last year, then i really hope that you’re doing the same thing for our general election on the 8th June, and are registered to vote. Because otherwise, shut up, go online, register to fucking vote and do your civic duty on the 8th.

fishcustardandclintbarton

Reblogging this because it looks like a GE is gonna happen on 12th December, so register to vote. You can also register if you’re under 18 now, but will be 18 by the 12th. It takes literally 2 minutes to do.

Always reblog Chris Evans soft core photos.

angryschnauzer

What i love about that particular photo is that even with his boxers THAT LOW on his hips, there is still weight being cupped by the fabric that far down…

There are many reasons to vote besides electing officials. You might also, say, still technically have slavery in your state constitution that needs to be abolished.

katy-l-wood

MMMMMHM. Wanna know what’s worse? This is the second time in the last few years Colorado has voted on this because last time IT DIDN’T FUCKING PASS.

If you want to get really technical on it, this is a “the language just never technically got removed” sort of issue. But it is obviously still a huge fucking issue.

Really damn ashamed of my state on this one, honestly.

quousque

It’s not just a technical language issue. This would affect prison labor- prison is where legal slave labor happens in the U.S. There’s a lot of corporate interests- private prisons, for one- who don’t want this amendment to pass, because it would cut into their ability to profit from the labor of prisoners. I’m no longer a Colorado voter since I moved to Montana, but if you live in Colorado, vote yes on amendment A!

Reprinted in full from The Palmer Report, Fri, Oct 5th:

This afternoon, after the Republican Party cobbled together enough votes to put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, thus putting him over the top, I pointed out that he could quickly be removed if the Democrats win control of the Senate next month. Some observers mistakenly thought I was referring to removal by impeachment vote, and pointed out that 67 Senate votes would be needed. But I’m talking about something that would only take 51 Senate votes.

Over the past two years we’ve seen multiple Republican-controlled Senate committees make criminal referrals against witnesses who allegedly lied under oath during their testimony. If the Democrats take the majority in the Senate, even by only one vote, they’ll take control of the Senate Judiciary Committee – where Brett Kavanaugh just finished committing multiple counts of easily proven perjury on multiple topics. In such case the Democrats can, and will, make a criminal referral against Kavanaugh.

If you’re tempted to think this might sound like some kind of mere hypothetical fantasy, I can’t stress enough that the Senate doesn’t hesitate in general to make these kinds of criminal referrals. And this time around, Donald Trump wouldn’t be able to place any restrictions on the investigation, because it wouldn’t be his investigation to begin with. We’d likely see Kavanaugh indicted by a grand jury and then arrested. There’s a reason why Donald Trump and his White House placed such emphasis on trying to prevent Kavanaugh’s past drinking habits from being investigated by the FBI. It’s not that the drinking would have disqualified him; it’s that it would have nailed him for perjury.

The big question is whether the Democrats can win the Senate next month. The Democrats would need to keep all of their existing seats, plus win two Republican seats from the races in Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, and Nevada. Or, if the Democrats lose one seat, they would need to take three Republican seats, and so on. This would be tricky, but doable. The magic number in the Senate for ousting Brett Kavanaugh isn’t necessarily 67; it’s 51.

➣  TRACTION, PLEASE.

pbrim

This is why we need to vote in Democrats, even if some of them are a little problematic.

We almost impeached a president for cheating on his fucking wife but we can’t even impeach Trump for putting children in fucking cages

adhd-anti

Y'all are fucking annoying

randomslasher

It’s worse than that. We didn’t almost impeach Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was impeached–the senate just ruled to keep him in office.

And what we impeached him for was perjury and obstruction of justice.

Aka lying and getting in the way of official investigations.

You know. The things Trump has been doing since day one. On live TV and twitter. Where we have fucking proof of it.

Yet here we are. And there he fucking still is.

This is why we have to vote this November, guys. We have got to take back congress. Trump will almost certainly be impeached if we can get enough seats back.

Please please, I beg of you. Even if you don’t love your democratic candidates this November; even if they’ve done ‘problematic’ things in the past–please vote. The people who sat it out in 2016 because they didn’t love Hillary, or were bitter about Bernie, or fucking voted third party–they are the ones who carry the weight of this administration. The republicans went in undivided. The democrats went in split. And now children are being torn from their families, legal citizens are being deported, and we have fucking Nazis on the rise again.

I get that you want your politician’s views to align perfectly with yours. I do. But sometimes in politics you have to chose the lesser of two evils. We didn’t do that in 2016.

I beg of you. Do it this year.

violetfaust

You may not be able to find a progressive candidate whose ideas precisely align with yours…but I PROMISE you that the fascist racist misogynist white supremacists have candidates whose ideas EXACTLY align with theirs.
