she’s always just teasing in good faith with a good heart behind it because they’re friends, and she likes him, and he’s a dork and honestly so is she! and he’s never really had someone be nice to him like that, he’s so used to jokes being at his expense and too sharp and with veiled disdain behind them that it’s almost normal. so when Scully messes with him, says things like “must be an x-file” in response to his confusion, he visibly stalls.
