decided to sketch the cast of our 1920s berlin holosuite adventure in TAKE A CHANCE ON ME its part of a longer series but i fell so in love with the outfits and ideas we came up with (especially for ziyal) that i decided to focus on this particular work first!

1) Jake/Ziyal is a galaxy brain ship and in a just universe, they would have been a thing. I can see Jake taking her on a cute holosuite date to a baseball game. Alien girls love ancient obscure Earth sports, right?
2) All dressed up in a Bajoran outfit (bought on a shopping trip with Kira) and Cardassian makeup. Her fluffy hair clip is tribble fur– there was that infestation on the station that one time, and certain Promenade merchants and craftspeople… uh… saw a bright side.
@sweet-peppermint-candy I actually think it’s really interesting how she never wears one in the show, even though she was raised on Bajor by her Bajoran mother for most of her life. Maybe Dukat didn’t want her raised to believe in what he felt was primitive superstition? Rude. Bajoran kids don’t wear an earring, though, so maybe she was enslaved before she was old enough to start wearing one? Either way, if she wanted to start wearing one, I think she’d need one custom-made… her ears are a bit too small for a standard one.
I thought I remembered Dukat finding Tora Naprem’s earring at her grave and keeping it, so I did these sketches of Ziyal with her mom’s earring… but he didn’t find her earring, he found her betrothal bracelet, oops. Well. My version of Ziyal is in an AU already, so I’m going to say Dukat did some more Graverobbing With Feelings and gave Ziyal her mom’s earring to remember her by.
It took Nog a bit to warm up to Ziyal, but now they’re good enough friends for him to agree to help her paint her claws for a date with Jake! She’s never put on nail polish before, but Ferengi wear it all the time, so Nog is a pro.
Ziyal and Jake have hung out as friends plenty of times before, but this is their first official date. It’s an important difference! Jake just wore one of his everyday outfits, but now he’s wondering if he should have dressed up…
ziyal spends a summer apprenticing under uncle garak at his shop and ends up making a whole line of her own bajoran style dresses–but with cardassian fabric ;)
not to start this thread again but as a ziyal stan i still just resent that so much of her already limited screentime was just….. wasted…… the fact that she was bizarrely retconned from the younger, more energetic, slightly feral first iteration who just wanted kira to teach her how to stab things in the first place, and then the fact that most of her meaningful character development was completely derailed in favour of a HORRIBLE “romance” plot with the thirtysomething year old gay war criminal when she couldve been art buddies with jake? jake was right there? and nog? kids her age who she could have had actual fun being friends with? hello????
