guys i get it that everyone's focus is on the gay pirates part of the show but please can we not ignore this cinematic masterpiece of a scene

I know because we’d established in “The Wounded” that O’Brien was a tactical officer on the Rutledge is the reason we got him as the Enterprise tactical officer in Redemption Pt. 2, but it really says how much Picard just….doesn’t think anyone in Worf’s security and tactical staff should be there when he’s there. He’s bypassed the entire department and said Chief, you’re it!

And Worf’s been at this Klingon Civil war, presumably weeks, if not months and no one was better qualified than O’Brien, who, in the 4 years he’s been on the Enterprise, hasn’t been seen at tactical? (Now, Lonely Among Us, he isn’t said to be anything he’s just the guy the delegates demand to see the captain to, could have just bumped into him, could be security but wasn’t tactical)

A shame we didn’t introduce a a security lieutenant not two episodes ago that could have taken over while Worf was away. A longer payoff to the Jenna D’Sora story  (look us, going places, I’m chief and now you’re a captain), where she could even be angrily whispering at Data during the Sutherland gambit “What the hell do you think you’re doing!?”
