It’s an interesting line to walk to have a fictional character (Cardinal Lamberto) as a stand in for a historical person (Cardinal Albino Luciani) become the same named historical pope (John Paul I). The historical beats are there (investigating the Vatican Bank, and his death 33 days after he becomes Pope) but his role in it is fictionalised or open to speculation (murdered by poison tea).
