According to “Star Trek: First Contact”, New Zealand has ceased to exist by April 2063.
@airyairyquitecontrary bad news there is no New Zealand in Star Trek.
Actually, there was recently a whole sequence of things in the “Sideswipe” column of the New Zealand Herald about all the times New Zealand has been mentioned in Star Trek, mostly Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Not only do we have a cushy rehabilitative prison where both Tom Paris and Julian Bashir’s dad were banged up, we’re the location of a Federation-wide famous school of creative writing where Jake Sisko wants to study (oddly it is not named after any known famous New Zealand writer like Mansfield or Mahy or Ihimaera or Hulme, but I guess maybe Pennington came along later OR IT’S JUST A PEN JOKE FOR WRITERS - no actually, Memory Alpha says it was named after a New Zealand-based BNF who the DS9 writers wanted to tip their hats to, that’s so sweet and cool).
New Zealand is there, it’s just… cloaked.
Ah the ole Pennington School! A prestigious name synonymous with fine penmanship if I ever heard one!
