This theory begins with Discovery‘s early casting announcements, when Shazad Latif was cast as the Klingon officer Kol. Later, Latif was recast in the role of Starfleet officer Ash Tyler. Latif is now credited among the main cast in the title sequence, even though Ash Tyler only appeared in episode 5.
But according to some fans, Latif was already in the show from episode 1. They believe he also plays the Klingon torchbearer Voq, and Voq has disguised himself as the human “Ash Tyler.” That means Javid Iqbal, the actor who plays Voq, is not actually a real person. He’s just a name CBS put on the credits, to avoid spoiling the twist.
So, who is Javid Iqbal?
Javid Iqbal’s IMDb page contains just one credit: Star Trek: Discovery. His only photo is in full Klingon makeup. He’s the only cast member who never appeared in the show’s promotional tour, and he doesn’t have a social media presence.
Furthermore, there’s a ton of canonical evidence to support the Ash Tyler/Voq theory within the show.
