She had just completed modifications following her shakedown cruise.

She will depart later that day to travel to Argentia, Newfoundland. Her first mission was to the North Atlantic and to neutralise the threat of the German Battleship Tirpitz. There were reports of him operating in Norwegian waters. USS Iowa returned the Norfolk Navy Yard on October 25, for two weeks of maintenance.
