Part of me is excited about The Borg Queen returning to Star Trek. Especially opposite Picard and Seven. But it's not Alice Krige. And she made that role. Defined it.

I don't think Alice likes to do TV. I think they had to entice her to do Voyager's finale. I also think age and COVID and all that makeup could play into if she declined to reprise the role.

But since she took part in April Star Trek Day events, I'm just surprised they'd recast. And mildly disappointed.

When Picard started, my biggest hope was those two together. When Seven joined the cast that only increased. I kind of got my wish. But it's not quite it. 😕

Impressing my dad and his friends with my theory that Star Trek The Motion Picture is the origin of the Borg

• Bald white lady becoming part of the machine
• “Molecule sized multiprocessors” in the body
• Central brain controlling all external devices
• A drive to merge the human with the machine in pursuit of completion
• Spock’s literal dialogue “Any show of resistance would be futile, captain” !!
• “Did we just see the beginning of a new life form?” “Yes, captain, we witnessed a birth.”

#I was going to say this isn't possible because the borg were in the delta quadrant #since at least the 1400s #according to VOY 'Dragon's Teeth' #and 'thousands of centuries according to Guinan in TNG 'Q Who' #but then I remembered the Borg have time travel #so this actually is plausible as an origin story #also the irony of V'Ger and the starship voyager both hailing from earth but getting stranded far from home and altered by the process is... #pretty good actually (via @sporkandpringles)

oh but ok so

V'Ger, as the original Voyager probe, was heavily damaged and then somehow encountered a race of "living machines", which rebuilt it as best they could and tried to restore its programming to the best of their understanding. And that created V'Ger.

So were those aliens that rebuilt V'Ger in the first place the Borg? Or like, some kind of proto-Borg? Did V'Ger go back to them after the events of the film? Did the Future Borg go back in time to ensure their own existence by creating V'Ger to create themselves?

The nature of fandom is that sometimes you see old fan theories come back again and again.
