When I'm like AARGH over how people can think "shinning" is a logical way to spell "shining" or "chocking" spells "choking" I try to remind myself that it's because the loose and exception-riddled rules of spelling in English have never made intuitive sense to them in the way they luckily have to me (or they just don't have the sort of memory that retains the exceptions without exertion, which again, luckily I do have) so they're basically looking at ALL words puzzled about how that spelling can mean this word and this is actually a pretty common problem indicative of how tricky my first language can be even for fellow native speakers
BUT
shinning and chocking, man
