Betrayal also effectively shuts down the Charlie/Paula angle, brutally as his problems come to her restaurant.

Paula: is this the part where you say “I can explain?”

Charlie: you took the words right out of my mouth.

Paula: …

Charlie: I’m gonna have to disappear for a while.

Paula: How about forever.

What little security blanket Charlie had got taken from under him. This is the first episode where we don’t visit Alphaverse. Oh but Reena’s last scene is priceless.

This episode does a good job of flipping everything we think we know about 01 so far. But more than that it breaks Karl while Reena gets to finally have a good day (well after burying that other woman). And Charlie, well Charlie isn’t surprised about anything, so cynical about the people around him that things end up being true, because it’s the worst possible outcome.

Now we start to explore 01’s vulnerabilities as a person (again laxyers of complexity) and it’s splendidly performed by Filipowich.

Meanwhile Charlie and Paula, really the relationship that I didn’t care about is finally going somewhere. So of course we have to see how Jasmine’s doing, which is not very well. Sure she got a hack to switch classes as a parting gift from Charlie but it basically means instead of being a C3 with no possessions is a low end C2 and the job she has is manual labour involving lots of switches and she is struggling to keep up.

All of this too is layered with FM Le Sieur’s awesome score.
