Cadillac El Camino Concept, 1954. A GM Motorama show car previewing many styling features that appeared on production Cadillacs throughout the 1950s including quad headlights, the shape of the tail-fins and bullet tipped bumpers. It was finished in silver-gray with a brushed stainless-steel roof. The El Camino name was later used on generations of Chevrolet pick-ups. El Camino is short for the Spanish el camino real, the Royal Highway, alias Californian Highway 101.
Ford Thunderbird Italien Concept, 1962. A design study by Ford’s Thunderbird stylists. This special version of the third generation T-bird featured a fastback roof line and red leather bucket seats front and rear. The Italien was a part of Ford’s 1962-63 “Custom Car Caravan” and appeared in Autoramas throughout the United States. The restored car sold at auction in 2008 for $660,000.00
40 years ago the future looked like this Toyota FX-1, 1983. Another concept from the 25th Tokyo Motor Show, the FX-1 used advanced aerodynamics, exotic materials and cantilevered doors to project what a GT from the 1990s would look like. Many of the feature and its 1G-GE engine did make it into production
