RIP Douglas Rain (1928-2018) - Canandian actor who entered in cinema immortality as the soothing voice of computer HAL 9000 in Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and Peter Hyams sequel 2010 (1984) died today of natural causes at age 90. Most of his other works consisted of TV films/series in between the 1950′s and 1990′s, such as the title role in Henry V (1966), Love and Lacerny (1985) or plays like Vivat! Vivat Regina! for which he was nominated for Broadway’s 1972 Tony Award as Best Supporting or Featured Actor (Dramatic). But after his amazing voice work in 2001, he was more requested for his vocal talents, both as film narrator or in homages such as an Evil Computer and other robots in Woody Allen’s Sleeper (1973).
