By Barbara Liston ORLANDO, Fla. (Reuters) - Climate change activists blasted Florida Governor Rick Scott on Monday for leading an “Orwellian” campaign to ban employees of the state’s lead environmental agency from using such terms as “global warming” and “climate change.” Despite coastal Florida’s vulnerability to storm surges and rising sea levels, the state’s Department of Environmental Protection was directed in 2011 not to use the phrases in official communications, according to a report by the Florida Center for Investigative Reporting. “This is embarrassing, but worse than that, it’s very worrying,” said David Hastings, a marine science professor from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, on Florida’s west coast.

Florida Representative Frank Artiles has introduced a bill that would make it illegal for trans people to use single-sex public bathrooms and other facilities that correspond with their gender identity.
Trans people “caught” using single-sex bathrooms could face up to a year in jail or a $1,000 fine. And cis people who encounter trans people in bathrooms at restaurants, hotels, movie theaters, stadiums, gas stations and in other public places would be entitled to a lawsuit against the “alleged interloper” and the owner of the facility.
“The purpose of this act is to secure privacy and safety for all individuals using single-sex public facilities,” House Bill 538 states. “Single-sex public facilities are places of increased vulnerability and present the potential for crimes against individuals using those facilities, including, but not limited to, assault, battery, molestation, rape, voyeurism, and exhibitionism.”
The bill says single-sex facilities designated for males or females would be restricted to those with a corresponding “biological sex, either male or female, at birth.” It makes no accommodation for people who have transitioned to a different gender since birth, and would also apply to non-transgender people who use the restroom of the opposite sex.
Not limited to restrooms, the measure also concerns dressing rooms, fitting rooms, locker rooms, and showers “that are maintained by an owner of public accommodations, a school, or a place of employment.”
What the hell, Florida. Sick of your BS.
