Stopped at the MiniStop on a looong walk and my husband came out with what I thought was a corn dog (which Japan calls “American dog”)—but it was something even better:

A hot dog, wrapped in mochi, deep fried, on a stick, with garlic sauce and mustard!!!!

Yeah, this really did it for me. Is it an unusual combination of textures and flavors? Yes! Is it kinda hard to eat? You betcha! Is it crispy and then cheeewwwy and then snappy and juicy and bursting with mustard-meat-garlic-umami all over your tongue? Yes!!! Honestly, sausage is an unsung hero. Never gets the credit it deserves.

To celebrate Super Mario’s 35th Anniversary, 7-Eleven stores in Japan are selling food inspired by the games. (Feb. 5-March 1, 2021)

kingjackalope

I had to look these up.

The first one is the Mario Mix Roll. One side is a croquette with a ketchup sauce and egg salad, the other side is a Mushroom Napolitan. Napolitan is a Japanese version of pasta that is made with a ketchup based sauce rather than a traditional tomato sauce.

Yoshi's green melon bread, (unlike regular melon bread which is named for its shape) has melon juice cream and whipped cream inside.

Koopa's fire-breathing super hot fried chicken roll. There's hot spice in the chicken batter and chili sauce on the roll.

Princess Peach's Dolce is strawberry rare cheese and strawberry jelly. There's lemon whip cream on top, with milk and strawberry jelly.

Shining Star milk kanten. Kanten is an agar-agar jelly. It's got pineapple sauce on top.

Fire Flower curry bun of flames. It's got a tomato and chicken curry inside. It isn't as spicy as the Koopa roll, despite the name.

this man busted out the great machete, the scimitar, and the moaning shield to make this burger just to cut it in half unevenly

Why do I here, "you're next" as he casually brings out a machete with a smile on his face?

Regular doctors don’t necessarily know much about nutrition/diet either. I started seeing a dietician this year and she was straight up horrified by some of the advice given to me by my doctor.

CC: My thoughts on nutrition trends as a dietetic student/intern.

Starting off big: Keto was created for epileptic children. Carbs are not bad for you; they’re actually the preferred fuel source for the body.

Drinking lemon water in the morning will not boost your metabolism. Taking Apple Cider Vinegar shots in the morning is gross and does nothing for you.

The terminology of „clean eating“ is silly. The only time you should be clean eating is when there is dirt on your food.

1,200 calories is the amount a toddler needs and/or a 98 year old bed-ridden patient. If you have working liver and kidneys, you don’t need to do a detox. All those cleanses do is make you poop yourself.

Consistently eating under your Basal Metabolic Rate will lower your metabolism. Juice cleanses are just…no. Dietary fat does not make you fat. It’s an excess of calories that contribute to adipose tissue.

Sweet potatoes are not healthier that white potatoes. They just both have different micronutrient profiles. Skinny does not automatically equal healthy. Eating after 8pm will not make you fat.

Drink your water, get your sleep, eat your fruits and veggies and forget about the rest.

She’s right and should say it. Speaking from an entirely different part of this grand conspiracy, a lot of this shit is made up and pushed to sell expensive niche cookbooks to your parents. The amount of books about keto and and “clean eating” i sell to boomers and older Gen X is absurd.
