This set me think of Gremlins with the cocoons question and I can see the Gremlins being some sort of offshoot of The Wraith. Like The Ancients were trying to come up with a cure and were like, "Oops, Gremilns." And the one The Ancients brought one with them when they evacuated to the Milky Way galaxy and then got away.
