We unironically do this in Colombia since many corner stores sell soda in reusable glass bottles, where you’re supposed to bring an empty one so the new one can be sold to you, as otherwise you have to pay a premium to keep the bottle.
And since many don’t have the empty bottle on hand or just don’t want to pay the premium, the store owner will just pour the soda in a plastic bag, add a straw and sell that at the normal reusable price.
Although nowadays it’s not nearly as common as it once was, reusable personal glass bottles are slowly being passed out in favor of 2 liters plastic ones, while there’s now many options for disposable soft drink containers.
