WHY DOES YOUR SOAP NEED INTERNET

pftones3482

Anyway this is your reminder to STOP BUYING SMART DEVICES THAT AREN’T NECESSARY.

Your soap does not need to connect to the internet. Your fridge does not need to be able to track the temperature in other countries. Your stove shouldn’t talk to you

This is not “technology bad” this is “these corporations are tracking you and your movements at ALL TIMES OF THE DAY.” They know your every move down to when you wash your hands after you take a shit. Alexa and Siri were the first introduction to this, and once people got used to them on their phones, they put them in their own little gadgets for your house.

And then they connected those gadgets to the lights. To the doors. To the window locks. To the thermostat.

You should be TERRIFIED at how many things are becoming “smart” these days. It’s yet another way for companies to sell to you, and, in a worst case scenario, it can be the thing that puts you in harms way.

Imagine you’re running a little late on your electric bill, and your fridge is a “smart” fridge. And because you’re running late on your payment they just….lock your fridge. Not shut the electricity off. Lock your fridge. Because fridges can now be locked remotely. You can no longer access your food until you pay them.

Cops want to know if you’ve been to any protests recently? They can track that handy dandy smart watch you decided to wear, even though you left your phone in the car. They can tell if you were home all day or lying.

Abusive partner or family member? They can shut off your support systems everywhere. Decide when you get to eat, if you do. Decide how hot or cold the house should be to make you suffer. Turn off the oven in the middle of you cooking dinner bc you upset them. Lock you in. Lock you out.

Your appliances, your LIFE, should not be surrounded by smart tech. Buy normal clocks. Get normal soap dispensers. Keep a pen and paper on the fridge to write down your grocery list. Set a manual timer for the oven. Wear a normal watch that only tells time. Get a step counter that clips to your belt.

Phone, laptop, TV. Those are the only things that make sense being “smart.” Everything else is one step closer to a dystopian novel that you don’t want to be in.

Your phone already tracks your every step. Don’t give every other thing in your life that ability.

pile-o-words

And here’s the thing! It’s not only something that can cause you problems if you’re late to pay bills or have abusive partners/family or are doing something the government may not take kindly to!

Let’s say, hypothetically, you do literally nothing. Well, turns out there’s a bug in the fridge software that sets the temperature to 60 degrees when it receives some unexpected input from your fridge app. Or the manufacturer pushes out an involuntary fridge update and now, while the update is downloading, sorry! your the fridge doesn’t open until the update is done.

And these are only the issues that affect you. Generally, Smart Device manufacturers do not think for even one second about the security of their devices. So, this means that hackers will see well known and publicized security holes that have been easily available for literal years but the manufacturer is simply too lazy to fix, use those holes to get into devices, and use those devices as bots to attack whoever they please (and, as a bonus, it look like it’s coming from your home!)

You’d think that this sounds like something out of a horror movie but this is the reality we live in RIGHT NOW. Many of the largest botnets (e.g. the Mirai botnet) in the world consist largely of compromised smart/IoT (internet of things) devices.

So uh just give it some thought before you buy the SmartChair3000 – it’s probably not as cool as it sounds :P

A few “fun” smart device things I recall off the top of my head:

The smart grill that had an automatic update pushed out on Thanksgiving so this guy couldn’t start cooking dinner.

A smart washer a reddit user found was consuming 1GB of data a day due to a bug.

The LG Home Hack which allowed hackers to control a variety of LG smart devices.

Hey @TraegerGrills - who the HELL sends a software update on thanksgiving?!? pic.twitter.com/17Yv1jDLUO — Hard Pass (@HardPass4) November 25, 2021

“Mr. District Attorney” makes absolutely clear the differences between the 1940s comics and the 1950s comics. In the late 40s, it started off as an ordinary detective/crime solving comic, an adaptation of a radio drama. However, as the years went on, due to the nature of the culture of the 1950s, strange, surreal, and at times, silly situations began to creep in little by little.

you don’t need to ask for jane anymore: a guide to coming to chicago for a safe, low-cost abortion

kaijutegu

A lot of people in the US are super worried about the Supreme Court axing Roe v. Wade, but what they might not know is that some states have laws in place that will protect the right to reproductive choice and abortion if that happens. One of these states is the state of Illinois. In 2019, a law was passed that protects abortion rights within the state even if the federal right to an abortion falls. This means that if Roe v. Wade is overturned, abortion will still be a protected right in Illinois. Even before Roe, Chicago was a haven for safe abortions- you just called and asked for Jane.

Now, safe abortion access is the law of the land in IL, and there are several groups who can help you. This post is long, but I think it’s worthwhile. Even if you don’t read all the way through it, maybe save it for later. You or someone you know might need it. If you want to stop now, the TL;DR is this:

  1. f you’re a minor and you can’t tell your parents, get a waiver of notification from the IL Judicial Bypass program.
  2. Schedule your appointment.
  3. Contact abortion funds to get financial aid. Your home state might have s fund, and the Chicago Abortion Fund can help.
  4. Secure housing for the procedure through the Midwest Access Coalition or by talking to the intake staff at the clinic of your choice.

I’d like to start by saying that the closer to home you get your abortion, should you need one, the easier it will be for you… probably. It depends on your individual situation AND your safety. If I still lived in Indiana and I needed an abortion, I’d probably leave to get it done, even though there are abortion providers in Indiana, because Indiana is super hostile and there’s lots of clinic protestors- for example, when I was taking my GRE my senior year at Notre Dame, the testing center was in this little strip mall in Mishawaka next to Planned Parenthood. Despite the fact that the PP in Mishawaka does not provide abortions, there were protestors who yelled at me for going in there. I wasn’t even going to PP. I’d like to say that I said something devastatingly cool but I just ran in flustered. Point being: It really, really would have sucked if I was there for healthcare instead of a standardized test for graduate school. And that’s a very tame, mild situation! Real abortion clinic protests are often much more devastating!

ANYWAYS. The less you have to travel, the easier things tend to be, if it’s safe to get an abortion where you are and if your state will have protected abortions if Roe is overturned. If you’re not sure what might happen in your state in that case, this map has a clear, succinct overview of the legal status of abortion in each state and all US territories. You will want to click through to that link, because this image isn’t interactive.

image

[ID: a map of the US with states and territories sorted by their legal protections for abortion into four categories: expanded access in the case of Roe v. Wade being overturned, protected, not protected, and hostile. IL is highlighted.]

So let’s say you live in any of those red states. (Yellow and blue are safe- abortion access is protected there.) Let’s say, worst case scenario, Roe gets overturned and you get pregnant and you want to terminate. You will be able to do that in IL, and it’s relatively easy to do that in Chicago for a relatively low cost and with the benefit of a robust support network of people who want to reaffirm your reproductive choices.

First, if you’re a minor and you don’t want to tell your parents because it’s not safe for you to do so, get a judicial waiver of parental notification. The IL ACLU has a judicial bypass hotline. This will come at no cost to you. Do this ASAP, because it takes time to get it set up! You can do this by calling the hotline at 877-442-9727, texting 312-560-6607, or emailing judicialbypass@aclu-il.org.

Next, you need to get an appointment set up. You could get a referral from someone local to you, but this can be tricky- 87% of counties in the US don’t have an abortion provider, and google can lead you to a crisis pregnancy center. They will not help you. If you have a local Planned Parenthood, call them. Even if they don’t provide abortions, they can refer you to someone who can. If you’re coming to Chicago, which this post… kind of assumes you are… you can call any of these groups to talk about your options and what clinics can help you. I recommend starting with FPA or PP; those are two actual clinics. MAC and CAF are funds- they can direct you but they can’t schedule an appointment for you.

Family Planning Associates (FPA): 312-707-8988 or use their online schedule tool, found here: https://www.fpachicago.com/schedule-now/
Chicago Abortion Fund (CAF): Phone: 312-663-0338 (note: the helpline is only staffed MWF from 3:30-6:30 PM CST, or email helpline@chicagoabortionfund.org
Midwest Access Coalition (MAC): 847-750-6224 or email support@midwestaccesscoalition.org
Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PP): 1-800-230-7526

You might want to shop around and see which clinic costs the least, and is the most practical for you to get to. FPA has a lot of patient resources, as does PP. Don’t be afraid to ask for financial assistance. The people staffing those organizations have extensive networks and deep compassion for their patients- if the clinic can’t help, they might know who can.

Once you’ve made an appointment, now’s the time to start gathering financial aid. Some insurance, including IL Medicaid, covers it. If yours does not, or if the copay is still too much, this is where abortion funds come into play. Many states have their own abortion funds for state residents, so you might have to look around to see who can help you. I’d start with the National Network of Abortion Funds.

You also need to figure out transportation and housing while you’re in the city to get your abortion. This isn’t super necessary if you’re just coming for the pill abortion, but if you’re coming for a d and c or other surgical procedure, you will be staying for a couple of days. THIS is why I’m writing this up, because abortion funds typically only are able to help cover the financial cost of the procedure. It’s expensive to stay somewhere and it can be absolutely terrifying if you’re on your own! Navigating while you’re in pain from the procedure can be an absolute devil of a time, too! However, Chicago has MAC (contact info above), which is a practical access fund, which means that they help pay for transportation to the city (bus tickets and train tickets) and around the city (volunteer drivers or volunteers who take rideshares with clients), food, aftercare medicine (painkillers, etc.), and housing, and there’s also free access to emotional support staff throughout your stay. This is not just open to IL residents; it’s open to anyone coming to the city for an abortion. ALSO if you go through FPA, they have a partnership with the Hampton Inn a block away from their location where their patients get a discount. If you go that route, just talk to FPA about housing and they’ll hook you up. This can be super helpful if you need some evidence that you’re on a “business trip” or something like that- if you are in a position where you need an excuse for your safety, that might work well.

Hopefully you won’t need this post- but if you do, I hope it helps. Feel free to share it around. If you have anti-choice opinions and you feel the need to share, don’t. This isn’t the space for it; you will be blocked and your comments removed. And then remember that criminalizing abortion won’t stop abortion. It’ll just stop safe abortions. Also, increased access to abortion, funnily enough, tends to be the thing that lowers abortion rates, because increased access to abortion comes part and parcel with increased access to birth control and general health and sex education.

kaijutegu

Reblogging this because it’s always relevant… and because an administrative decision by MAC’s incredible leadership means they don’t just do bus and train tickets anymore. They will also help pay for airline tickets if you need to fly. If you are in the US and need to come to Chicago for an abortion, MAC’s got your back.

kaijutegu

Also, if you find yourself in a situation where you can’t travel, and you catch it early, you can do a medication abortion at home. This can either be clinician supported through telehealth or it can be a self-managed abortion (SMA). Either way, you can do this entirely online without ever having to go into a doctor’s office or clinic.

http://www.sparkrj.org/website/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/SMA-1-Pager.pdf

Now, this only works early in a pregnancy (up to 11-12 weeks), so if you’re in a situation where you suspect you may become pregnant and you don’t want to be, test early and often if you can. The various help lines can also help you figure out how far along you are.

More resources:
https://www.reprolegalhelpline.org/- this link is a good resource for talking about your legal options. If you’re a pregnant person of color, immigrant, or low-income (and using Medicaid) in an abortion-hostile state, I HIGHLY recommend talking through your legal options because you are absolutely targeted by politicians and the US legal system.

https://www.plancpills.org/

https://abortionhotline.org/

Also, if you would like to do something IRL to help, why not print out some stickers? These have a QR code that leads to Plan C’s website.

https://global-uploads.webflow.com/5f7e0692875fa8243cac6673/613fac241151daf59881d89e_PlanC_DIY_StickerSheet_2x2.pdf

You can print these on sticker paper at home if you have it. It’s a good way to get the word out.

As of… thirty minutes ago on Monday, 2 May 2022, Politico got hold of Justice Alito’s draft statement on Roe. It’s not good. We’re probably gonna lose Roe vs. Wade in two months, and that means if you live in a red state, you’re VERY probably going to lose the right to a safe abortion.

I know this is a long post, but if Roe is overturned, it’s not going to stop abortions. It’s just going to stop safe abortions. Abortion access is reproductive healthcare, and a lot of states are going to get really restrictive. Indiana, my home state, has already put a woman in jail for having a miscarriage. Oklahoma lawmakers would rather let women with ectopic pregnancies die than allow lifesaving medical procedures. This is bad, but! Underground abortion networks did exist before Roe vs. Wade, and now we have the internet. We have robust networks in place to help people that the government would rather see dead or imprisoned. Even if Roe is overturned, some states will be safe havens for abortion. Travel to these states can be difficult, but not impossible– that’s what abortion networks and abortion funds are for.

Please save as much of this information as may be relevant to you. And if you’re “pro-life” and feel the need to comment on this post? Don’t. Your opinions and input are neither valued nor wanted. Abortion access is a vital, necessary part of reproductive healthcare.

So I wanted to know what kind of crystal could go in a wizard staff, right? so I googled “big crystal,” as one does, and got an Etsy ad for This

image

And as you all know I Am currently taking a geology class, so I am probably more emotionally invested in minerals than usual. But that is...very obviously not a natural crystal.

So I did some looking around on Etsy.

image
image
image

Now, these shops all seem to advertise to the “witchy”/“spiritual healing” type of person. And there are a lot of them. Crystals are a Big Thing on Etsy. And ALMOST ALL of them are obviously artificially cut into the same sort of prism with a triangular pyramid top, regardless of the actual sort of crystal it is supposed to be.

Even like, fucking, obsidian. Obsidian is volcanic glass, it doesn’t form crystals at all, it is not a crystal

I’m not throwing any shade at people who are into crystals for like witchy reasons, but it really seems like if crystals are spiritually important to you, you should know what a crystal is...right...?

headspace-hotel

So there I am. Caught in the helpless anger and distaste of looking at geologically inaccurate Etsy crystals.

And as I scroll, I start to see items in...interesting shapes:

image

“Oh,” I think to myself. “Oh no.”

But it is too late. I have heard the siren’s song, singing to me of knowledge that will destroy me, but that I cannot help but seek.

image

These...elongated objects are almost always ambiguously described as “massage wands,” “crystal healing wands,” and other such innocuous things. The egg-shaped objects are, um, “yoni eggs.”

image

...Right. Okay.

Maintain the youthfulness of my sacred organ.

IT’S A SEX TOY. SAY IT. BITCH, IT’S A SEX TOY, IT’S OKAY, SERIOUSLY, THERE’S NO SHAME IN IT, SAY IT WITH PRIDE, SAY IT WITH YOUR CHEST,

OKAY.

Okay. I’m good. I’m fine.

image

Actually, you know what, never mind. There is shame in this and I want it to be never acknowledged again.

Additionally, I am not fine.

image
image

Why the fuck are there so many of these—

At this point I stop and start googling.

Now, Selenite is the crystalline form of gypsum. It is also known as satin spar. Selenite is brittle and breaks easily, and has a Mohs hardness scale of 2.

For those unfamiliar with the Mohs hardness scale, a mineral with a hardness of 2 is soft enough that it can be easily scratched with a fingernail. It also is dissolved by moisture.

image

NO. DON’T PUT THAT IN YOUR BODY???? DON’T PUT THE GYPSUM, WHICH HAS A MOHS HARDNESS SCALE OF 2, IS BRITTLE AND BREAKS EASILY, AND IS WATER SOLUBLE, INSIDE YOUR LITERAL ACTUAL VAGINA??????????

I try to reassure myself with the fact that these things are probably not actually selenite, because making a dildo out of such a soft mineral in the first place would be very difficult. Having seen fluorite before, I feel pretty certain that the fluorite yoni eggs are probably actually just glass.

I google fluorite.

image

Okay.

Further exploring online shows me that fluorite is soluble in various strong acids.

image

Some guys on a forum in 2004 have strong contradictory opinions on this.

(I google the pH of the vagina.)

I don’t understand how pH works. I give up on the solubility question and google the toxicity of fluorite:

image

I now know at least one orifice fluorite does not go inside.

Science.

headspace-hotel

No, dear followers, my journey did not end here.

I have opened Pandora’s box, except Pandora’s box is filled with minerals God did not intend to be anywhere near the vagina carved into the shape of dildos. Etsy is advertising me sex toys I wish I could forget.

And vaginal steam herbs.

It seems that there is potentially a correlation between wanting to steam your vagina and wanting to put rocks in it. I know, groundbreaking discovery.

image

Okay, so we’re talking therapy substitute therapy substitute.

(I begin to think about how desperately we need universal health care. Maybe I just need someone, something, to blame.)

At this point, I realize that I haven’t done any googling on whether dildos made of rocks are a good idea at all. So, very tentatively, as if typing it more slowly will make it any less observed by the FBI, I google whether quartz should be used...internally.

First result that pops up:

image

That’s, uh. That’s reassuring.

image

I decide I’m incapable of unpacking this particular suitcase.

There are, of course, a small handful of articles debating the safety of rose quartz sex toys. But I’m getting the feeling that this is not a normal question to have in the first place. I close the tab with little relief.

Etsy is still enthusiastically recommending me things that hurt me psychologically.

image

...pleasure chalk?

How can I describe the fear that this image struck in me, reader?

Pleasure Chalk? What could that be?

Is knowing worse, or is not knowing? I scarcely have a choice:

image
image

I check in with my emotions.

Is this relief? Am I relieved that they are eating the dirt instead of fucking it? One review complains about the taste. I don’t know what they expected.

I try in vain to struggle against the tide, to return to the relatively normal side of Etsy. I begin to resent, no, hate, these deceptively aesthetically pleasing hippie shops eagerly spreading medical misinformation and things as yet unknown.

image

This, unlike the other “crystals” I have shown, appears to show naturally grown crystals. They are, of course, quartz crystals, and $45 comes off as extremely overpriced. I have a quartz crystal I got for a dollar at an Eastern Kentucky rock festival, about the size and quality of the ones in the photo.

Quartz is the most common mineral in the Earth’s crust. But at least this is regular levels of annoying.

Then I see this:

image

Well, I see the photo and the price, and I think, that looks like a regular quartz crystal. There’s no way a regular quartz crystal is $1,347.

I read the description:

image

I am crying. I don’t want to google any of this. I am beyond googling. I no longer desire knowledge.

THATS A QUARTZ CRYSTAL. MOTHERFUCKER THAT’S QUARTZ. SIO2, MOST COMMON MINERAL IN THE EARTH’S CRUST. ITS FUCKING QUARTZ IM—

I click on a malachite.

image

The malachite promises to protect me from emails. And at this, darkest hour, I want to be protected.

I have been broken. I have been lured to my demise.

Big Brother: loved.

Geology lab I’m supposed to be doing: incomplete.

God: unmerciful.

headspace-hotel

image
image

@teddybear-kin @queen-cryptic I regret to inform you that, regardless of the intended usage of wands, people are absolutely putting them in their bodies and the labeling is not always clear and distinguishing. Objects that are very clearly dildos are described as "massage wands."

image
image
image

Many of them are still dubiously presenting themselves as items for health practices, blurring the lines between masturbation and "yoni massage."

image

It's really unclear where the line between "this goes in your vagina" and more normal items is in general. Some of the items are very clearly in the "please don't" category, but some of them are just like "This is a Massage Wand. Up to you which of your holes you shove it into."

image

"insert the wand slowly and try to massage inside of your Yoni (Vulva)."

Kill me.

i feel like people hate abstract art not because its “ugly” or “a thing a kid can make” but because all the well known abstract artists are pretentious assholes who think theyre soooooo galaxy brain for making bad art because it “challenges what art is” or some bullshit and we just hate their guts

mint-bees

like “blue seaweed” by jackson pollock? bullshit. this is so fucking ugly i can practically taste the overpriced wine he was sipping while bragging to art critics about how woke he was for not making “good” art

Okay i can get behind this tho

motorcyclegirlfriends

So, I get why you think this way, with an Elite and greater culture that propagates the idea that both creating and appreciating abstract art is off-limits to Common Folk (and that neither can be Fun), but let’s take a minute to look at the art made by Jackson Pollock and Jenna Marbles!

(And don’t worry, this isn’t going to be “actually, Jenna’s is bad, you just didn’t know it” in the least.)

Let’s look at Jackson Pollock first.

image

This is the dude who invented drip art! Mind you, this is in 1947 (two years after the end of World War II) and there wasn’t anything like it in the modern art movement.

Obviously, it’s abstract—it doesn’t represent anything in particular—but he also didn’t try to form specific shapes. He was just making stuff based on how he felt. Which is not dissimilar to what Jenna’s doing!

Another big revolutionary part of what he did was put the canvas material on the floor and use tools like sticks or glass or super stiff brushes or whatever he felt like. People had been pretty strictly using brushes on a vertical canvas before this (barring the floor-based creations of the Native American Sand Painters, who Jackson had compared his work to).

Some people—art critics sipping overpriced wine ; )—weren’t into it, were bothered by the seeming randomness and lack of meaning, others saw it as a revelation.

Which is a good thing, because this “action painting” style likely inspired the other free, similarly less Careful-style art forms like the acrylic pouring and string pull painting we see in Jenna’s videos!

image

It’s ironic that you talk about the possibility of Jackson making “bad art because it ‘challenges what art is’” because he specifically wasn’t trying to trigger a particular Deep interpretation of his art, and he wasn’t particularly concerned with if people liked it. He didn’t think it was too serious.

“It came into existence because I had to paint it. Any attempt on my part to say something about it, to attempt explanation of the inexplicable, could only destroy it.”

JP: I think they should not look for, but look passively – and try to receive what the painting has to offer and not bring a subject matter or preconceived idea of what they are to be looking for.

Interviewer: Then deliberately looking for any known meaning or object in an abstract painting would distract you immediately from ever appreciating it as you should?

JP: I think it should be enjoyed just as music is enjoyed – after a while you may like it or you may not. But – it doesn’t seem to be too serious. I like some flowers and others, other flowers I don’t like. I think at least give it a chance.

He named some of his paintings like that—like they’re musical compositions without descriptive names that imply how it should be interpreted.

image

This piece is titled “Number 1A,” kind of like how Mozart had “Symphony No. 1,″ or “Piano Concerto No. 27,″ etc. I think it’s kind of pretty, but he was just trying to represent himself and his headspace.

“Painting is self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is.”

He was super into Jung and Freud: “I am particularly impressed with their concept of the source of art being the unconscious”

He was just going with the flow. But if he had wanted to say something specific, there’s plenty of non-pretentious fun to be had on that level. Jackson specifically wanting to challenge what art was at a time when the only acceptable forms of art by rich people (cultural Deciders) were… idk, realistic portraits of themselves—that would have been pretty dope.

I want to talk about Jenna’s relationship with art and meaning, so first I’d like to look at a series of abstract paintings that kind of serve the purpose of your “challenges what art is” concept and really pisses people off.

image

Yeah. People hate these paintings. Just. Black? Who gave this dude wall space?

But, something pretty cool happens when you look at them! If you standing in front of them, spending some time trying to understand them, your eyes begin to adjust. Soon, you start to see variation. Distinct shapes and colors.

image

These paintings by Ad Reinhardt are titled variations of “Abstract Painting,” and I think they serve to demonstrate what abstract art can be: something that gains deeper meaning the closer you look, the more you spend time with it. This thing that makes you want to reject the concept of abstract art altogether can make you appreciate it more, if you let it occupy some time and space in your head.

Maybe the idea is pretentious, but there’s also a palpable passion for ideas in the way Reinhardt speaks: “There is a black which is old and a black which is fresh. Lustrous black and dull black, black in sunlight and black in shadow.”

And that’s not something you can limit to the Elite, I’ve seen the same dedication to abstract thinking and symbolic representation in analyzation of fictional tv shows! And Jenna, herself, isn’t lacking in thoughtful commentary on her process and resulting paintings.

Jenna Marbles, Modern Artist

Jenna Marbles, 33 year-old lady and famed youtube artist, has been known to have the “too much gene”.

She has said about her process, “I needed to make them and get them out of my consciousness,” a similar—but more tortured—philosophy to Pollock’s “It came into existence because I had to paint it.”

However, unlike Pollock, who said “I have no fears about making changes, destroying the image, etc., because the painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through,” Jenna is an artist very concerned with maintaining a pleasing aesthetic.

Due to her tendency to continue adding to her works beyond when she considers them aesthetically pleasing (her “too much gene”), she has deemed many of her own works failures, despite critic consensus to the contrary.

This lead to fellow artist, youtuber, and platonic best friend Julien to observe: “You used these paintings as an opportunity to let out your inner out-of-control. I was the exact opposite. It honed me down into a normal, well-behaved person while I was painting.

This highlights the role that process plays in the creation of works of art—much like Pollock’s Action Paintings visually represent the role movement played in the creation of his works. Jenna cannot seem to stop herself.

Jenna, in naming one of her paintings, creates a meta-commentary on all of her works:

This painting, titled “Stop it” functions as a reminder to Jenna to quell her too much gene. As a successful painting by Jenna’s standards, it serves a positive motivational function.

Not knowing the history behind it, we might say “neat” or remark upon the striking dark lines amongst the vibrant colors.

But knowing the context, the history which brought this artist to this point, we can find a deeper meaning. This represents a woman’s struggle to stop herself for her own benefit, like humankind’s journey from base instincts to thoughtful action.

However, perhaps the most important impression we gain from Marbles’ works of art comes from Julien…

“Oh that’s dope.”

What Jenna’s doing is awesome! She’s making the process of abstract art seem more accessible by people who want to have fun, like it should be. But we can have fun with the meanings of works of art, too!

And it can be more fun to look at art history and art that seems detached from our experiences than you might think.
