Captain Chantal Zaheva: Commanding Officer of the Science Vessel U.S.S. Brattain. In 2367 got trapped in a Tyken’s Rift at the rim of an uncharted star system. The rift was slowly draining their power and prevented them from escaping. Captain Zaheva sent out a distress call that wouldn’t be answered in time. Unbeknownst to them, an alien species trapped on the other side of the rift was attempting to contact them telepathically. The telepathic communications was interfering with the dreams, aside from the one Betazoid crew member, who was only dreaming nightmares.
The lack of REM sleep drove the crew slowly insane, breaking down into anarchy. The entire 35-person crew killed each other, save for Hagan. Captain Zaheva, seeing nonexistant plots and conspiracies, ended up killing her first officer after being trapped for three weeks. She was later stabbed to death, pinned on her command chair. 29 days after their distress call the ship was found by the Enterprise.
