But I think that, despite their worst efforts, in the end this resulted in a very complex, flawed character who was far more human and relatable than the larger-than-life demigods the male captains were. That’s why she’s my favorite.]

I think Kate Mulgrew also encouraged them to make Janeway less than perfect as well.  And it does make for a much more interesting character.
