You just had to say it, didn’t you Anakin. You couldn’t help yourself, could you??
Bonus:

There is still good in him
Friendly reminder that Padme had a subplot in Episode III where she was going against Palpatine’s actions and she, Bail Organa, and Mon Mothma (her only appearance in the prequel trilogies) basically formed the early version of the Rebel Alliance, but the entire thing was deleted.
Apparently this subplot was cut at the last minute because Lucas wanted to keep the focus on Anakin, but tbh this would have strengthened Anakin’s storyline as well as the film overall. In the final scene of the subplot, Palpatine starts sowing seeds of doubt in Anakin about Padme’s loyalty to the Republic and to Anakin himself, and it helps show that not only did the Empire begin in ROTS, but so too did the Rebellion.
Plus, it has the added value of reinforcing how Palpatine essentially had full control of the Republic long before it formally became the Empire; by the time he declares himself Emperor, the title is little more than a formality. The Petition Of The Two-Thousand is a blacklist that Palpatine can use in the early years of the Empire to scapegoat any political opponents and eliminate them, silencing any opposition. It also gives Padme and clear and powerful legacy in the history of the Rebellion, almost as a martyr.
Finally, we have the artistic value - the contrast between Anakin and Padme, as their politics divides them and they each help to form the Empire and the Rebellion respectively, culminating in the final symbolism of them lying on their respective operating tables clad in black and white.
but that would have gotten in the way of padme’s entire plot contributions in ep3 being, a) getting pregnant, b) crying, and c) dying

*starts crying*
You guys all joke about how extra Anakin is, but no one ever talks about the fact that Padme literally went to bed wearing a tiara.
Padmé Amidala | Blue velvet robe | Attack of the Clones
Padmé’s robe is made from blue and gold shot velvet; the backing of the fabric is gold and the pile blue, giving it a two-tone effect, which also matches the antique gold trim on the sleeves. Before the robe could be constructed, 25-30 yards of velvet had to be smocked by hand to create the intricate patterns in the fabric. It reportedly took 1-3 months to complete this process, know as Canadian/lattice smocking, and resulted in a very heavy robe.
Unseen in the film, the back of the robe has a deep-ish v which ends in a large beaded tassel.
ONE TO THREE MONTHS SMOCKING BY HAND
how long was it in the movie for?
smock that

I kinda sorta hc that padme is still alive.
Like given all the evidence of her character, the handmaidens, the almost spy training, and war experience…
She would have totally taken the opportunity to go undercover after birthing her kids. She knew they’d always be in danger if connected to her so she spread rumors of her death and now functions as a shadow broker in the star wars universe. Fighting an info war with the empire.
I’m for this.
Thx!
… !!! …
So after we closed the shop tonight we started talking about this head canon…
Padme gets Owen to keep Luke on the farm and out of the Imperial Academy by paying off a bunch of the farm’s debts.
She hears about this scoundrel with a ship who has been known to cheat at sabacc dice, and convinces him it would be worth his while to loose to Han… She’s heard of Chewbacca, and he’s trustworthy, and he has this idiot pilot but no ship. And her daughter is going to needs a ship at some point here. Lando ends up with no ship, but in charge of Cloud City.
Chewie gets a “text”, you should go get a drink. So he has a little tantrum until Han suggests they hit the cantina. Handy that they’re around when Obi-Wan is looking for a ship…
Yes thank you!!! This is exactly what i wanted :D
Like I can see Star Wars having someone on the good side pulling strings from the shadows and who would be better than Padme?
The more I think about all the coincidences and questions in how information got from person A to person B, the more Padme as a super successful shadow broker.
I would like to add to this headcanon that Ahsoka Tano is Padme’s right hand in all this. Padme sought her out after it all fell apart and said, “Come help me fix this mess.”
hc addendum: Ahsoka and Lando are Padme’s most trusted enforcers
Um, I just discovered that, in canon, Rey, while scavenging, comes across a postcard for Cloud City.
I think that makes Padme the Shadow Broker canon.
I have also now spent two hours sketching out how Padme’s network works in order to fit it into my current fic universe. #nerdgasm #of course I’ll cite @yadelah and @optimysticals
