The riding boots given to actor Peter Cushing (Grand Moff Tarkin) to wear with his costume was apparently so ill-fitting that he was given permission from director George Lucas to wear his own carpet slippers instead; He was thus never filmed below the knees. Actress Carrie Fisher has reportedly said that she found her interrogation scene with Peter Cushing so difficult not only because he was such a nice man in real life, but also because she “found it difficult to be intimidated by a man wearing carpet slippers”.

If there’s anyone you should be intimidated by, it’s a man powerful enough to wave off all this uniform stuff and just dress how he likes.
