i also found a print of the 1852/1853 edition of the quarterly review that has accounts of lady jane and sophia’s voyages with william penny and POSSIBLY a letter that blanky sent to his wife from disko bay that she had published in the review in 1852

but its in print on amazon for like $20

Read a few wikiarticles around Kolchak, specifically his involvement with the Russian Polar Expedition of 1900-02 with Eduard Toll and there are a couple of choice tidbits:

1) I don’t care for dogs/I owe dogs my life and I will defend them.

2) surprise bear!

Soviets in the 70s: This oatmeal’s good y’all! well, tis still edible. I need to know more about the tests they did in in the 80s and 2000s. and before you ask, of course there’s an image of a soup tin:

of course there were lost arctic explorers (again) that were never seen or heard from (again). The last message said that all were healthy and there’s mystery as to why they didn’t store food and left the remains behind of killed bear and deer.

This final bit is about the legacy of Kolchak in arctic exploration but I just like the title of the volume Problems of Polar Research, which sounds so benign.
