Police officers shoot and kill Kid in Los Angeles: ‘He ran because he was scared’

Andrew Heney, owner of the Freeway autoshop, told a local CBS affiliate: “We had a security guard that was out front, because we had just had certain issues with people tagging and stuff like that.”

“And then the police came up, and they pulled their guns on him and he ran because he was scared, and they shot and killed him. He’s got a clean background and everything. There’s no reason.”

The sheriff’s department are claiming Andres Gyuardado had a gun but the autoshop owner and witness to the shooting says that’s absolutely not true he never carried a weapon and didn’t that night.

What’s even worse is that right after the shooting, the Store owner said the cops immediately destroyed all the surrounding security cameras, broke into the store, stole his DVR with the recordings, and then created an illegal warrant after doing all this.

The shop owner also states he never called the police and doesn’t understand because “There was no reason for them to be there.”

theatomicpsychotic asked:

Hey do you have more info about human rights violations by cops in Australia? Especially against first nation Aussie's? I'm aware it's a thing but id like to be more aware about cases especially recently to remind myself and others about the injustices faced here as well.

theauspolchronicles answered:

Well for starters: Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people are the most incarcerated people in the world - beating the US’s atrocious track record of incarcerating 2,207 African-Americans per 100,000 of the population whereas Australia incarcerates 2,346 Indigenous Australian per 100,000 of the population.

They make up 2% of the overall population, but 27% of the adult prison population. They’re unfairly targeted with minor offenses. The Australian Law Reform Commission recommended that Australia abolish discriminatory mandatory sentencing and imprisonment for unpaid fines - which disproportionately impact Indigenous women.

There was a Royal Commission into deaths in custody that ended in 1991 but since then 423 Indigenous people have died in custody. As I mentioned in an early ask today although police have been charged with the murder of Indigenous Australians in custody, I cannot find an example where they were actually convicted. Even recently 5 prison guards held down a man while he couldn’t breathe until he died. They’re not currently facing disciplinary action.

The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) gave Australia a score of 5.5 out of 10 for “freedom from torture” with Indigenous Australians the highest at risk of torture/ill treatment. (The next group at highest risk if refugees and we all know that the government is deliberately cruel to refugees)

Indigenous Australians also rank lower on Quality of Life indicators like food, education, health, housing, and work, which we can link to the history of colonial disenfranchisement and high rates of incarceration causing problems with gaining access to education/employment which impacts health/food/housing and so forth.

Also last year the Australian Lawyers for Human Rights had a “report card” where they gave Australia an F minus saying that there was no progress towards reconciliation or the civil, political, social, and cultural rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

So yeah. There’s just a lot of problems when it comes to the legal system and how it treats Indigenous people to say the least.

If anyone has any resources that amplify an Indigenous person’s voice on this matter please put it in the notes so people can see it. That’d be greatly appreciated.

These two images hit different to me.

The top is my homestate. Michigan. Armed protestors against the stay at home order shouting in the faces of police because they want their haircuts.

The bottom is yesterday. Minnesota. More exact, Minneapolis. Miles from where I live. Protestors sitting while police show up in riot gear as they rightfully protest and demand justice for the murder of George Floyd.

I’m not the least bit shocked. But seeing the stark contrast from two places I’ve called home is so disappointing and infuriating that the racist system we live in allows for this and there’s still people who will say the protestors in Minneapolis were wrong. Just... I’m so angry the “land of the free” fails so many people. America was never the land of the free.

George Floyd was murdered by police. Just like Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, and far too many others.

White supremacists storm state capitals armed with AR-15 assault rifles and are unharmed. Unarmed people protesting murder by police get tear-gassed and shot with rubber bullets.

Systemic racism is the disease of this country. It must be eradicated. From the white supremacists in the White House to the terrorist vigilantes who hunted down Ahmaud Arbery to the Central Park (Liberal, Buttigieg supporter) woman in New York, calling police on a man who merely asked her to leash her dog.
