I just watched a kid break down in the bookstore because his books for the semester totaled $600 and that’s the american university system in a nutshell

I was on the verge of tears when I got to the cashier so…

Seriously! I had a professor who made us buy a $70 small packet of copies for stuff not relevant to the class (the class was on the psychology of aging and she wanted us to read Plato and Socrates, which may be relevant to psychology but not so much to what the class is actually supposed to be about).

We didn’t use it ONCE! She assigned “optional” reading for the first week and then never touched it again.

Lesson learned: don’t be so eager to buy your college books. Make sure the teacher uses it first.
