One Dress a Day Challenge

The Men of September

Blackadder II / Rowan Atkinson as Edmund, Lord Blackadder

Even though this is "just" a very funny comedy show, costume designer Annie Hardinge really gave it her all. The costumes are better and more authentic-looking than some seen in serious costume dramas. Lord Blackadder dresses all in black with touches of silver and red, which not only fits his personality but was very fashionable at the time. The snake-and-dagger design on his sleeves is really beautiful and intricate, as is the ornamentation on the cape. And he's got a proper ruff!

Note: The picture with Baldrick is actually from Blackadder's Christmas Carol, but it seems to be either the same costume or an identical one.

Ideal shirt: black, fitted through the torso, understated swan collar, perhaps lightly quilted low-lustre silk or heavy high-thread cotton fabric, the hem coming coming down to the upper or middle thighs, front fastening, with Huge Poofy Voluminous Sleeves that billow around wildly until about the middle of the forearm, where they are suddenly cinched into tight-fitting wrist cuffs. Possibly the sleeves are dagged with red and/or silver fabric underneath, for maximum “Sith Lord joins the Royal Shakespeare Company” vibes.

Like this. You know, except not like this at all, really:

Dark material throughout, vibrant fluorescent colors for the dagged material, a stunning visual display in reserve. When confronted with a dance battle, a traditional ritualistic means of instigating and resolving conflicts, the rare Sith Jester engages in a low movement shimmying motion to the beat. The instant an opening is perceived, the jester lurches into the Harlem Shake technique, disorienting the challenger with the sudden motion and flashing colors that appear from nowhere. This is typically sufficient to cause the opponent to lose the rhythm, ending the dispute in the jester's favor.

Yeah exactly.

Alternatively: some of that diaphanous iridescent green-purple gauzy fabric layered overtop everything like a subtle mist of psychedelic gas.

The original description and diagram IMMEDIATELY made me think of Lord Edmund Blackadder circa season 2

The pants have the dags and colors more than the sleeves do, but..... still XP

Yeah no that’s great. The adder embroidery is really the essential piece that sells it.
