#science isn't blind

stuff like the tuskeegee syphilis experiments or phrenology/other forms of race science are not aberrations from science or the scientific process they were decidedly part of science and often were practiced and espoused by the most qualified, well educated, and respected scientists of their day because science can’t distance itself from culture no matter how it tries.

the history of science and its relationship to dominant cultural paradigms needs to be taught in science classes as much as anything because just like knowing cell and molecular biology will help students know what’s going on in medicine and medical research a little better, knowing how to situate themselves and their relationship to ongoing and historical science is vital for people to understand what’s going on in the world
