About Axanar, CBS already stated to press months ago that they did not condone the project and were against it. Peters basically believed that them not stopping him meant they were secretly ok with it. I guess that permissiveness only extended as far as them finding out he was making money out of it. It's sad how many fans are up in arms about this, acting like they're ready to harm real Star Trek in support of some guy that was paying himself full time salaries out of fan money! Funny world...

I skimmed thru some of the responses to the original articles and got bored at the yelling back and forth. People I think are mostly concerned about what it means on fan productions in general. Now I can’t say I’ve seen the original press release against Axanar from months ago, I’m only aware of the recent developments. The Kickstarter campaigns were supposed to pay I believe for sets and cast but as to whether Peters gets anything out of this, is something that’ll be interesting to see when a full accounting comes out. I think they have legal representation pro bono from the looks of it. if this drags on or becomes bigger it’ll be an interesting 50th

People defending Alec Peters are seriously being deceived. Everyone is assuming CBS is evil because they're a big company, but the truth is Alec took the money the fans gave him and built himself a for-profit studio. He was licensing properties to make for profit in his studio. Actors were dropping out of Axanar because he treats people like garbage. He is being sued because he embezzled fan money for profit. And this lawsuit might forbid all fanfilms, all thanks to a greedy liar breaking laws!

Nearly Forgot this was in my inbox, this was in response to the CBS suing Axanar article I posted

I’ve been reading a bit more but I think it’ll be a bit more time before the whole truth comes out. Using Kickstarter to basically pay for building a set and paying for actors might have crossed a line yes. Tony Todd dropping out 3 months ago because of a lack of Kickstarter “accountabilty” certainly raises some questions and needs to be expaned updon If Peters indeed cultivated some relationships with people at CBS thought and they didn’t give him any warnings then that was a dick move on their part as well. People are also not liking his inital response to them. I wouldn’t necessarily say this Axanar is dead in the water but for now until this is resolved (and sometimes lawsuits are a means of negotiations) it certainly won’t move forward. I don’t think it has anything to do with quality (I’ve been skimming those responses saying CBS is jealous and I doubt that’s it) but certainly a means for CBS of asserting control and reminding people who owns the Star Trek franchise or “property”

I couldn’t even guess as to what it means for the other large scale fan productions (Star Trek New Voyages, Star Trek Continues, and the other one Tim Russ wanted to do). Worth keeping an eye out as it develops.
