Finished Star Trek’s the Fall.
Some thoughts.
Its the small things I like. In the Poisoned Chalice for example, not every human serving in Starfleet is from Earth. Not even counting series regular Christine Vale (Riker’s XO and onetime Enterprise E security chief) from Izar we’ve got that Magna Roman (or Magna Romanii) First Officer I was talking about earlier when Vale was given temp command of Lionheart. Now there’s the captain running Jaros II from Terra Nova, Warden Sisterson (a sub par but important Ent ep. as I recall). Tuvok’s team meanwhile has a merc from Zeon sporting tribal tattoos that I want to know more about…
*Spoilers maybe*
Upon returning to Earth, Riker was immediately promoted to Rear Admiral by Admiral Akaar, for purpose unknown.
A Team of Starfleet and Mercenaries was assembled by the COS to bring the suspected assassins to justice. Team includes Tuvok, Nog and Tom Riker! Although declared dead during the Dominion War (referenced in other book) he has remained under the radar till now. He has the Riker beard again, slightly marred by scars left by CardassianInterrogators.
Riker gave Vale (his XO) temporary command of a medical vessel so that she could run her own investigation on what happened to Dax and Bashir (all they have are rumours).
Shout out to the Cetacean institute, which is still there! And to the Magna Romans of Bread and Circuses, also paying hommage to the early TNG Novel “The Captain’s Honor” where they underwent a revolution and now some are in Starfleet (TCH had a ship fully crewed by them). In here the MRs are transplanted humans (The Preservers at work again).
I forget if I ever mentioned I love that Will and Deanna named their daughter Tasha.
