[ID: A two panel, monochromatic, digital comic. In the first, panel, Bigfoot, 11-year-old Griffin, and Stephanie are standing next to an early-90s Oldsmobile Cutlass. Griffin is decked out in a nylon windbreaker, headband, shorts, and sneakers. Stephanie is wearing an simple, all-black outfit and boots. She has straight black hair and blunt bangs, and her hands are on her hips defiantly. Griffin is in a fierce karate pose, screaming “KYAAA!” facing Bigfoot. In the second panel, Bigfoot turns to face them and is now pointing a pistol at them. Griffin, now terrified, leaps backwards, curled up defensively, and Stephanie puts her hands up, also scared. Davenport: […] However, we do have a security officer on the ship, Magnus Burnsides. Maybe you could answer this one.

Travis: And Magnus like flips his cool guy fantasy shades and he’s like:

Magnus: Yeah, what? Uh, what’s the—

Travis: I can’t remember the voice!

Magnus:  Yeah, what’s the question? What did you want— what was it? Sorry I wasn’t paying attention.

[a long pause]

Griffin: … You asked it.

Travis: Oh, yeah, I did!

[laughter]

Duck: You didn’t really put any boundaries and, like, that’s the thing that I would like is a jet pack, and I feel like I could make use of it. I thought about enchanting Beacon, but he probably wouldn’t even let me.

Beacon: [long pause] Yesss…

Justin: I was waiting for Beacon to respond.

[laughter]

Travis: God, we’re all on a certain meta-level today! Hands raised. Waiting for our own character to respond to us.

Justin: [imitating a therapist] Is Beacon there, Justin?

[Travis laughs]

Justin: [imitating a therapist] Can I talk with Beacon?

[Clint and Justin laugh]

Griffin: Barclay comes back downstairs and says,

Barclay: I— Ned’s not anywhere. I don’t see Ned anywhere. I don’t see the laptop anywhere, either, Mama, are you sure you left it up in the office?

[brief silence]

Griffin: And Mama— oh, I forgot I was Mama.

[laughter]

Justin: Well, Mama? Mama??

Travis: Mama? Oh god, she’s gone!

Just like... listen, I know why people fell off Amnesty. It was a Base Breaker to be sure and like, it’s so different from the High Fantasy world but... it’s so good. Like, here’s just some really good stuff from Amnesty:

  • Literally it’s set in the world that the entire family grew up in so you get so much regional humor. The very first episode includes Justin just popquizzing a NPC about West Virginia an Griffin having none of it because he took regional history in middle school too, JUSTIN.
  • On that note, just like, Justin’s power grew 500 times. You thought it was Taako who had BDE but in reality, Justin’s just the type of person who will whip out an NPC he created without any warning to Griffin
  • And then Griffin in turn just like... hey bud you thought you were pulling one over on him? PSYCH he made a beloved character. Did you know Justin created Leo but Griffin was like nah son I’m actually gonna just take that one and make him an Important Character.
  • Don’t think I’ve forgotten about Aubrey tho because like? Both Magnus and Aubrey have this idealism and “do the right thing” but y’all, Travis’s range... Aubrey is so... so young. And it shows. Every word she says and every pitch, the way she acts, Aubrey is bright eyed and a dreamer and absolutely just... I’m gonna cry
  • And Clint finally gets to use his encyclopedic knowledge of... just pop culture in general to make ridiculous pulls like Saturday Night Dead and just various things Ned has stolen and it just makes this Grifter Uncle character who you both roll your eyes at his bloviating but also really, really want to see win one, one day. The investment for the redemption of Ned Chicane is... whoo.
  • And then just like, the constant of Griffin’s insane storytelling and just... really good hold on character development and world creation. He plays with themes of protection but also isolation, literally the lodge is named “Amnesty” because it’s a haven for extradited law breakers. There’s just so much both in the world of Sylvain and the plain-normal-world of West Virginia where characters will actively call out that this is just a normal US small town.

Tl;dr I totally respect Balance fans that fell off of Amnesty but at the same time... I cry every single time and it’s still That Good Good Content that deserves to be talked about and maybe even some new fans might like it.
