why is twitter like.... straight up evil

Got the same bad virality incentives as Tumblr, but also a bunch of opaque algorithm shit that no doubt optimizes for spreading outrage-inducing posts (unlike on Tumblr where that’s done manually, according to the aforementioned bad virality incentives), and also you can’t write long essays, only bite-sized Twitter-style clapbacks.

It has a huge number of anonymous users that aren’t accountable to anyone and also a huge number of people using real identities whose livelihoods depend in whole or in part on using the platform, leading to the worst excesses of chan-era anonymous culture with all the consequences of a Facebook.
