So I'm curious what are your thoughts on Star Trek Picard Season 3? Based on most of your tags, I get the impression that you did not enjoy it.

It is what it is. held together by duct tape and threadbare storytelling and one last hallway shootout.

Nostalgia is a hell of a drug and it couldn’t really save this one.

As it stands, ignoring the novels retcon, does it outperform “These are the Voyages”, which also used some Enterprise-D flashbacks in it?

Oh I thought my answer was gonna be yes but I’m just…..

maybe by a nose, its better than that. This season was a mess again that didn’t really know what it wanted, invested heavily in tropes and wanted a shootout a minute from the looks of it. All those scenes on M'Talas Prime, wasted potential of the Changelings (oh we fixed that. we got the transporters fixed), the omission of Laris in the finale when they made sure to put her in the season premiere.

Not to mention the Borg, oh the Borg. one transwarp hub down out of six and one dead queen is all it takes apparently.

In a way the closing scene of this season’s Mandalorian and Picard reflect a poor attempt to reach an endgoal by some of the worst possible means. Those closing scenes are good but unearned.

And, this goes back to TNG-era Trek, Star Trek can’t envision civilian life in these models. Everyone has to join Starfleet, we cant have any main civilian characters.

After listening too to Matalas on Gates’ pod I have a feeling that we’re trapped in another cycle of trying to Star-Wars-ify Trek, and the Trench run sorta reinforced that.

I think that’s all I got tonight.

I am glad the show is over. But I do need to watch the finale again with kiranerys who has been away and hasn't seen it.but knows most of what's happened at this point 🤣asksthecaptainoutoftimestar trek picardpicspoilerspicard spoilersmy long national nightmare is nearly over.and I can file that into 'huh that's interesting. thankfully not canon.OH also the Mandalorian was pretty bad this season but does it out-bad picard? in a way yes. bc we've had 2 great seasons of mandoand a decent but odd season of bobfbefore s3 kinda just.....[fart noises]whereas I knew what picard would throw would be badand hey! a lot of people disagree with me. people like jammer and keith ra decandido(it's me and christopher l. bennett in the peanut gallery. tho not lockstep)

Not sure if you got my first message so if this is a repeat, I apologize. I was wondering what source you are using for your new upscaled HD gifs of SG-1. I've checked out both Netflix and Hulu and neither look like they have been upscaled.

OH yes, I answered in ask or submission of my own. tumblr probably swallowed it. So I don’t have Hulu and I was going what other people were telling me but its possible it hasn’t be updated there either. In which case the hd upscales are only available on bluray on bluray rips….

Hey Danny, so I know you're a Babylon 5 fan. I started watching it on HBO Max. I've never seen it, but have wanted too. I'm about 8 episodes in and its not really keeping my interest. I've read online that it doesn't really get good till season 2. Is this true? If I skip ahead, will I miss anything important? Someone on a forum has a list of essential season 1 episodes to watch. I've been thinking about doing that as well.

It depends, some people love s1 some hate it, i still say its essential viewing, you’re building a universe from the ground up. there’s some really important table setting, character development and plot that’s all there in s1

also the HBO seasons don’t include the prequel movie (the gathering) the 4-5 other movies that were made during the final season.

its so much more serialized too that yeah you might miss something.

Hey Danny, is the new The Stand worth watching? Now that Discovery is over with, I was going to cancel my CBS All Access, but I'am sorta of interested in watching The Stand. Your posts about it seem like you're kinda of "Eh" about it.

It’s all over the place, there some good moments but a lot of just confusing ones. Kind of a train wreck really but you also can’t quite look away. Alexander Skarsgard isn’t as good as I’d hoped as Randall Flagg (although that just might be this episode. Frannie’s a non-entity (although there wasn’t that much there in the 94 adaptation either) and it takes a couple of episodes for Stu to really shine. Harold, Nick, and Tom Cullen all seem to have been given more thought.

The first four episodes are also mostly flashbacks of the main characters with boulder framing story so it really doesn’t have any momentum until last week. Despite the flashbacks its also a lot less travelogue-y than the 94 one.

If there’s nothing else on right now I’d say go ahead a binge it just for the sheer lunacy of trying to push a deadly flu pandemic story during covid. There’ll be things to like for sure. This show’s also halfway thru so you could wait another month and binge it then.

look i'm watching it bc I enjoy trash and this is such weird mix of good and badbut i can't say I actually recommend itexcept maybe Flan who would possibly enjoy this wreckthecaptainoutoftime

I think its worse because they rushed to get the script done before the writers strike so its probably only like a first or 2nd draft.

that’s probably true. I’m reworking my way to the (i hear) atrocious mark whalberg one and the one that came out after.

All I remembered from the first three movies was crash-boom-growl which I guess is all there is to remember

Is Star Wars Resistance worth watching?

I think so, but it took a while for me to get into it and I’m still behind. There’s some good and bad. The animation style is a bit off putting at first (just like it took getting used to Rebels after Clone Wars). Kaz, the main guy, is almost a carbon copy of Ezra, but more pilot no force (so far) and just as single brain-celled. I think they hoped the dynamics that formed in Rebels would immediately follow in Resistance and that hasn’t quite been the case. The scope is narrow: an assignment on an unaligned, out of the way platform and do recon. You do get some Poe Dameron, Captain Phasma and the Starkiller Base (this is again a prequel series). BB8 is fine as a droid companion, Neeku an alien that takes everything literally can be grating sometimes, and there’s the rest of the pit crew, the platform commander and his daughter, pirates, and so on.

For now I’m sticking with it.
